1936 50¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at 12:00 shows on the lower gown lines and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge (dot) between D of GOD and Y of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Die crack and die chips on the branch below the eagle's left-side talon.

1936 50¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, the lower gown, the lower gown lines, ground details, the sun rays, the lines on the left shoulder, the stars, lines of the right shoulder, tips of the outermost leaves, IN and WE of IGWT.  Tripling shows on the lower 3 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Many small die gouges (dots) on the left lower gown.  Reverse:  E/W die scratches through the DOL of DOLLAR.

1936 50¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, the lower area of the sun rays toward the lower gown, lower gown on the left side, lower gown lines, lines on the left shoulder drapery, stars to the left, the star behind the neck, right side collar, hair, nose and the I and E of LIBERTY.  Tripling shows on the lower 3 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:   Large die chip on the gown south of the W in WE.  Die chip on and above the left fork of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Die gouge on the right upper curve of the D in DOLLAR.  Die cracks follow the contour of the right upper wing span.

1936 50¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, lower gown, lower gown lines, ground details, sun rays, shoes, RTY of LIBERTY, branches, stars behind the head, the lines above and below the brazier, the lines on the right shoulder, and IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge (dot) in the field south of the left leg of the R in TRUST.  Two die gouges (dots) in the field north of the back of the right shoe.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1936 50¢ WDDR-001.  Half U-shaped die scratch on the eagle's left leg.

1936 50¢ WDDO-005

Description:  A Class V CCW spread from a pivot at about 11:00 can be found on the date, the lower right rays, the bottom of the gown, IGWT, and the outer leaves.  An earlier die state may show additional doubling to the RTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs WSW from the top left of the Y in LIBERTY.  Two small die gouges (dots) can be found to the left of the bottom of the 1st T in TRUST.  A short die gouge runs from NNW to SSE below the gown above and between the 3 and 6 in the date.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs SE from under the I in UNITED.  A strong die scratch runs NNE from the top of the I in PLURIBUS.  Numerous die scratches run SSW or SW under the eagle’s head.

1936 50¢ WDDR-001

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows as notching on UNITED.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1936 50¢ WDDO-004.  Die gouge (dot) in the field south of the left leg of the R in TRUST.  Two die gouges (dots) in the field north of the back of the right shoe.  Reverse:  Half U-shaped die scratch on the eagle's left leg.
