In the following listings the person listed as "Submitted By" is the person who sent the coin for listing in the Wexler Doubled Die Files.  It is not necessarily the person who originally discovered the variety.


1945 50¢ WDDR-002

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the RIBUS of PLURIBUS, the upper cactus branches, and the tips of the feathers at the bottom of the eagle’s right wing.  An earlier die state may show additional doubling.

Die Markers:  Three, short, parallel die scratches run WSW from the rim to the left of the B in LIBERTY.  Die scratches run NNW, north, and NNE from the top right N of IN.  A short die scratch runs NNE from the bottom right E of WE.  Four parallel die scratches run from SW to NE through the left side of the W in WE.  A die scratch runs SW from the bottom center of the L in LIBERTY.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found above the right side of the 1st T in STATES.  A short die scratch runs SW from the top left M in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found inside the 1st U of PLURIBUS.

1956 50¢ WDDO-005

Description:  Extreme extra thickness spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY.  Light extra thickness also shows on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date.

Die Markers:  Several parallel die scratches run from SSW to NNE to the left of the back of the head.  Numerous die scratches run NE from the eyebrow and the top of the nose.  A die scratch runs from WNW to ESE above the 195 in the date.  Die chips fill the upper and lower E of LIBERTY and the area between the top of the E and the rim.  A die scratch runs from WSW to ENE below the NU of UNUM.  Two parallel die scratches run from NW to SE above the right side of the R in DOLLAR.  Several die scratches run NE from the top of the F in HALF.

1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-006

Description:  Extra thickness shows on LIBERTY, the date, and IN GOD WE TRUST.  Close separation lines also show on most letters.

Die Markers:  Two short, vertical die gouges can be found inside the U of TRUST.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the R in TRUST.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the E in WE.  The reverse is a doubled die listed as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDR-003.

1956 50¢ Pr WDDR-003

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, HALF DOLLAR, the bottom of the bell, the eagle, and also on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Die Markers:  The obverse of this variety is a doubled die listed as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-006.  Type I reverse.  A die gouge can be found on the center right side of the 2nd A in AMERICA.  A small C-shaped die gouge can be found near the top right corner of the bell holder.  A die scratch runs NNE from the top right W of STOW.  A die scratch runs SSW from the bottom of the P of PASS.  A heavy die scratch runs from WSW to ENE through the bottom left bell lines.

1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-007

Description:  A very close spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  A small die gouge can be found between the tops of the W and E of WE.  A short die scratch extends north from the bottom of the G of GOD.  The reverse is a doubled die listed as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDR-004.

1956 50¢ Pr WDDR-004

Description:  A spreads towards the center, a spread towards the rim, and strong extra thickness shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, HALF DOLLAR, the bottom of the bell, the eagle, and also on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Die Markers:  The obverse of this variety is a doubled die listed as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-007.  Type II reverse.  A short, diagonal die gouge can be found on the bottom of the bell clapper.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found near the upper left corner of the bell holder.

Description:  Strong extra thickness from multiple hubbings shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, and the branch.

Die Markers:  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE above the leaves ESE of the R in LIBERTY.  A short die scratch runs NNE from the top right E of WE.  A small die gouge can be found below the right side of the horizontal crossbar of the T in UNITED. A die gouge can be found below the left side of the 1st A in AMERICA.  A small die gouge can be found between the feathers above the designer’s initials.

Description:  Doubling shows on the lower left side of the 7th Memorial column.

Die Markers:  A die gouge can be found near the rim above the W in WE.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 2.  A small die gouge can be found inside the bottom of the B in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found just below the N in UNITED.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the T in CENT.  Two small die gouges can be found on the left side of the roof.

Description:  Doubling to the 7th Memorial column shows on the left side of the column.

Die Markers:  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the center of the N of IN.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found above the right side of the U in TRUST.  A die crack runs NW through the eyebrow and into the forehead.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found below the 1st S in STATES.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the T in CENT.

2007-P $1 TJ WDDR-002   New Stage Listing Information

Description:  Doubling shows at the intersection of the 2nd ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Two parallel die scratches run from SW to NE between the S of THOMAS and the J of JEFFERSON.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE below Jefferson’s right eye (viewer’s left).  Obverse Stage B:  The die scratches between THOMAS and JEFFERSON from Stage A are gone.  A die chip can be found on the chin and a die crack runs NE from the die chip.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 3 in 3rd.  A small die gouge can be found below the 8 in 1801.  A small die gouge can be found below the 8 in 1809.  A die crack runs SW from the bottom of the 2nd E in JEFFERSON and then west through the hair at the top of the head below the FF of JEFFERSON.  Reverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs from north to south to the right of the right arm and between the 2nd and 3rd rays.  Reverse Stage B:  A die chip can be found inside the upper 2nd S of STATES.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and slightly on the letters of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Two die scratches run NE from above the E in WE.  A die scratch runs from NW to SE inside the D of GOD.  A die scratch runs from WNW to ESE above the mint mark.  A die scratch runs SSW from between the bottoms of the A and T in STATES.  Minor doubling from a doubled working hub can be found on the reverse.

Description:  Doubling shows on the underside of Washington’s earlobe.

Die Markers:  Short, vertical die gouges can be found above and below the R in QUARTER.  A short, vertical die gouce can be found above the D in DOLLAR.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found between the lower R and A of COLORADO.

Description:  Extra eyelids can be seen above and below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Rotational die scratches can be found throughout the bust and the field to the left and right of the bust.  A die clash mark can be found just to the right of the throat.  Short, strong, parallel die scratches run SW to NE to the left of the back of the neck.  A short die crack runs SW from the bottom left W of WE.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE inside the lower E of CENT.  Three parallel die scratches run from SW to NE through the A of STATES.

1970-D 1¢ WDDO-008

Description:  Obverse Stage A:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found above the right side of the Y in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found between the centers of the T and Y of LIBERTY.  Two short, strong die gouges can be found north of the E in LIBERTY.  A short, horizontal die gouge can be found above the L of LIBERTY.  A die crack runs from SSW to NNE through the hair above the ear ending at the top of the head below the W of WE.  Obverse Stage B:  Obverse is heavily abraded.  The die gouges around LIBERTY are weaker, but still visible except for the die gouge above the right side of the Y.  A die scratch runs north from the top of the head to the rim to the right of the E in WE.  Parallel die scratches run NNE from the vest to the left of the date.  Parallel die scratches run NNW from the top left E and top left R of LIBERTY.  Reverse Stage A:  A die gouge touches the top right 1st S of STATES.  A short, horizontal die gouge can be found NE of the designer’s initials.  Die pitting can be found to the right of the T in CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  A short but strong die scratch runs from SSW to NNE to the right of the top of the T in CENT.  Die clash remnants run NW from the top of the left cornice, NE from the top of the Memorial below the US in PLURIBUS, and south from the bottom of the Memorial below the left post.

Description:  Extra Memorial columns run down the centers of the 10th and 11th Memorial bays.

Die Markers:  A short, vertical die gouge can be found above the G in GOD.  A die crack runs from SSW to NNE starting to the left of the ear through the hair on the upper back of the head and then curves NE ending below WE.  A large die chip can be found on the lower end of the die crack.  Three small die chips can be found further north on the die crack.  A die crack runs NNW through the eyebrow into the forehead.  Two small die gouges can be found just above the U in UNITED.  A small die gouge can be found below the bottom left side of the N in UNITED.  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the center of the 2nd A in AMERICA.  A large die chip can be found on the upper right 1st Memorial column.  A die crack runs down the 2nd column.  The field between the upper 1st and 2nd columns is raised indicating a piece of die was likely to soon break away.  A die crack runs down the C of CENT and across the top of the C to the top of the E.  A die crack runs down the left side of the E in ONE.

Description:  Two extra eyelids can be found just below the normal eyelid.  Slight doubling shows on the bottom of the Y in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Circular die scratches run parallel to the rim all the way around the obverse.  Vertical die scratches can be found to the right of the bottoms of the N and E of ONE.  Vertical die scratches can be found above the right side of the N and above the left side of the T in CENT.  Parallel die scratches run SSE from the top left T in CENT.

Description:  Slight doubling shows on the date and the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  A die scratch runs north from the top right E of WE.  A die scratch runs NE from the upper right E of WE.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the left of the top of the I in LIBERTY.  Die scratches run SW and SSE from the underside of the nose.  The reverse is a doubled die listed as 1964-D 50¢ WDDR-022.

1964-D 50¢ WDDR-022

Description:  Doubling shows on all stars around the circle.  The stars on the lower part of the reverse are quadrupled as a result of master die doubling over master die doubling.  The letters all around the rim show some degree of doubling or quadrupling.

Die Markers:  The obverse is a doubled die listed as 1964-D 50¢ WDDO-038.  A die scratch runs south from the eagle’s right talons to the left of the mint mark.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the upper D in UNITED.  A die scratch runs from NW to SE through the upper R in AMERICA.  Two parallel die scratches run from north to south to the right of the eagle’s left wing.

1999 1¢ WDDR-044

Description:  Doubling shows on the left side of the 7th Memorial column.  An extra statue leg can be seen between the normal legs of the statue.

Die Markers:  No significant obverse die markers were found.  A short die gouge extends south from the top left 1st T in STATES.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the right of the center of the last Memorial column.  Damage (surface scratches) show on the left side of the statue’s legs and run into the 6th Memorial column.  These should not be confused with doubling or die markers.

2001-D 1¢ WDDR-006

Description:  Doubling shows as extra ceiling lines at the top of the 7th and 8th Memorial bays.

Die Markers:  No significant obverse die markers were found.  A short die scratch runs SSW from the rim above the M in AMERICA.

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on the upper left wheat ear, the E of EPU, and the lower right wheat ear and stem.  Doubling also shows on the left dot, the C of CENT, the RICA of AMERICA, the TES of STATES, and the T of CENT.

Die Markers:  A die crack runs from the top of the O in GOD to the rim.  Numerous die scratches run SSW to NNE on the neck.  A die scratch runs SSW to NNE to the right of the top of the bowtie.  A die scratch runs SSE from the bottom of the E in STATES.  A die scratch runs SSW from the lower left C in AMERICA.  Two parallel die scratches run NNW from the top right N of UNITED.  A die gouge protrudes from the top right side of the left wheat ear.

Description:  A spread towards the west shows on the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Die Markers:  A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the left of the bottom of the I in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs ESE from the center of the E to the lower left R of LIBERTY.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the 2nd T in TRUST.  Parallel die scratches run from NW to SE between the N of IN and the G of GOD.  The mint mark is repunched showing a D/D West and is currently being reviewed by John Bordner for listing in the Wexler RPM Files.  A die scratch runs NNW from the top of the B in LIBERTY.

Description:  Doubling shows as wavy steps below columns 5, 6, 7, and 8.
