1945 1¢ WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  Strong Class VI extra thickness shows on the date, the letters of LIBERTY, and the letters of IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die scratch extends north from the top of the 1 in the date.  A curving die gouge runs north to south at the back of Lincoln’s chin.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the center fold in Lincoln’s vest.  Vertical die scratches can be found just left of the back of Lincoln’s neck.  Die scratches extend south from the bottoms of the 1 and 9 in the date.  A die scratch runs south from the underside of Lincoln’s chin.  Obverse Stage B:  Only the die scratch running north from the top of the 1 remains.  The die gouges noted for Stage A also remain.  A die clash mark can be found just to the right of Lincoln’s throat and another to the left of the back of his neck.  Reverse Stage A:  A vertical die scratch can be found between the lower U and N of UNUM.  A short die scratch extends NNW from the upper center of the diagonal crossbar of the N in UNITED.  Reverse Stage B:  The die scratch between the lower U and N of UNUM is gone.  Die clash marks can be found between the C and E of CENT and between the upper N and T of CENT.  A small die gouge can be found inside the lower left side of the C of CENT.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date and the letters of TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs ENE from the top right Y of LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs WSW from the bottom of the 9.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs SW from the upper left E in EPU.  A die scratch runs SSW from the bottom of the L in PLURIBUS to the top of the O in ONE.  A die scratch runs NE from the top right O in ONE.  A die scratch runs from WSW to ENE through the upper O in ONE.  Remnants of a die clash run through the upper right N of CENT.  A die crack runs through the lower right wheat ear and out to the rim.  A die crack runs SSE from the 2nd A in AMERICA to the bottom of the right wheat ear.

Description:  A spread to the south shows on the date, the letters of LIBERTY, Lincoln's bowtie, the lower ear, and his eyelid.  Slight doubling also shows on the letters of IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge can be found to the right of the upper D in GOD.  Die scratches run from WNW to ESE just above the head.  Die scratches run from north to south through the 5 in the date.  Reverse:  Two die scratches run through the lower A in STATES.  Parallel die scratches run from SSW to NNE between the TE in UNITED and the E in CENT.  A die scratch runs NNW from the upper left E in CENT.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the right of the T in CENT.  A die scratch runs through the lower US in PLURIBUS to the right dot.

Description:  A doubled eyelid shows south of the primary eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die chip is present well south of 45 in the date.  Reverse:  Prominent finger feeder damage running from just below the C in CENT up through LU in PLURIBUS.  Small die chips are present southeast of the second S in STATES.

Description:  Two extra eyelids can be found south of the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die pitting can be found to the right of the neck.  A short die scratch extends WSW from the lower left O of GOD.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the right of the bottom of the W in WE.  Reverse:  Three parallel die scratches run NNE from the left inside of the 1st U in PLURIBUS.  A small die gouge protrudes from the lower left side of the O in ONE.  A die gouge protrudes from the bottom of the C in CENT.  A short vertical die gouge can be found above the top right side of the T in CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge protrudes from the lower left of the shoulder.  A die gouge can be found on the upper shoulder ESE of the Y in LIBERTY.  A light die scratch runs from SSW to NNE above the Y in LIBERTY.  Die scratches run SSE from the underside of the chin.  Reverse:  A light die scratch runs SW from the first dot.  A die gouge touches the top left of the N in UNITED.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the upper T in UNITED.  A die gouge can be found between the upper 1st T and the A in STATES.

1945 1¢ WDDR-007         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  Strong extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, both wheat ears, and both wheat stems.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the Y in LIBERTY.  Several die scratches run from SW to NE below the letters of IN.  A die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the 9 in the date.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Obverse Stage B:  The die scratches have been abraded away.  The die gouge to the right of the Y is still visible.  Reverse Stage A:  Several die scratches run from SW to NE between the top of the left wheat ear and the rim.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE through the NI of UNITED to the bottom of the E in CENT.  A die gouge protrudes from the lower left of the E in CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  The die scratches have been abraded away.  The die chip on the lower left E is still visible.  A die gouge can be found on the upper right leg of the R in AMERICA.

Description:  Strong Class VI extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, and both wheat ears and stems.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  LDS.  A short, horizontal die scratch can be found just under Lincoln’s ear.  A die clash mark can be found to the left of the back of Lincoln’s neck.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs ESE from the lower right P in EPU through the lower L and U.  A die scratch runs from WNW to ESE through the upper UNI of UNITED.  A short die scratch runs east from the center crossbar of the E in UNITED.  A horizontal die scratch runs through the lower D of UNITED and the 1st S in STATES.  A parallel die scratch runs below the D and S.  A nearly horizontal die scratch can be found below the C of CENT.  Two parallel and horizontal die scratches can be found in the lower M of AMERICA.
