1944-S 1¢ WRPM-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  S/S/S East & Serifs

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Serif S mint mark.  The obverse of this variety is also a doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1944-S 1¢ WDDO-023.  It has an extra eyelid below the normal eyelid.  N/S die scratches through the BE of LIBERTY.  Die scratch running south from the neck to the top of the bowtie.  Long die scratch from the bottom of the bowtie running south ending to the left and below the date.  Reverse:  N/S die scratch at the lower left inside of the N in CENT.  Diagonal die scratch is seen inside the upper N of UNITED.  A small die gouge on the left side and tucked under the upper arm of the T of UNITED.

1944-S 1¢ WRPM-002

Description:  S/S North

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge extending from the left side of the base of the bust near the rim to the L of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Die gouge below the IB of PLURIBUS.  Die gouge to the right of the right wheat.

Description:  S/S Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge above the OD of GOD.  Series of die gouges to the right and below Lincoln’s nose.  Die gouge below the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Die gouge to the left of the C of CENT.

1944-S 1¢ WRPM-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  S/S Northwest

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratch parallel to the rim above the D of GOD.  Two die scratches parallel to th rim to the lower left of the base of the bust.  Two long die scratches to the right of the Y of LIBERTY running N/S.  Reverse:  Very worn die.  None significant.

1944-S 1¢ WRPM-005

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1944-S 1¢ WDDO-003.  An extra eyelid shows east of the normal eyelid and an extra eyelid shows above the normal eyelid.  A die scratch extends WSW from the top of the I of IN and a short die scratch extends NE from the center right side of the I of IN.  Reverse:  A die scratch extends NE from the upper right U of UNITED through the top left corner of the N of UNITED.  Two parallel die scratches run south from the center of the 1st S in STATES through the E in AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Ball Serif “S” mint mark .  Parallel SW/NE die scratches in the field to the right of the bowtie.  Short die scratch running north from the top of the right arm of the Y of LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  Stage A die scratches abraded away.  Reverse Stage A:  Die chip centered on the left wheat kernels.  Reverse Stage B:  Die gouge SW of the C of CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Serif “S” mint mark.  Lathe gouge near the rim right of IN, above and to the right of OD of GOD again to the right of the E of WE.  East by north die scratch from the right center of the O of GOD to the D of GOD.  Die scratch west from the upper left of the W in WE.  East/west die scratch through the bottom of the W of WE.  Reverse:  X-shaped die scratch above the upper right of the T of CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Serif “S” mint mark.  Die scratch SSE from the bottom of the L in LIBERTY.  Small die gouge (dot) below the bowtie.   NNW/SSE die scratches below GO of GOD.  Short die scratch north from the top of the head to the right of the D of GOD.  Small die gouge in the field at the back of the neck.  Dot sized die gouge at the tail of the 9 in date.  Obverse Stage B:  Horizontal die clash remnant through upper 9.  Reverse Stage A:  Die gouge under the upper left wheat stem.  Reverse Stage B:  Die crack NW from the top of the E of ONE.  A large die chip on the top of the C of CENT.  Die gouge to the right of the M in UNUM.

Description:  S/S Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Serif “S” mint mark.  Circular die scratches at the neck.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found just above the right side of the Y in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs from WSW to ENE through the hair above the ear and through the upper forehead.  Reverse:  A horizontal die scratch connects the lower U and S of PLURIBUS.
