1945-S 1¢ WRPM-001

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge to the left of W of WE.  Die scratches between I & B of LIBERTY run south into rim. Three die scratches running north from the top of the Y of LIBERTY, one scratch at the top center Y of LIBERTY running north, two die scratches on Lincoln’s right arm top running north.  A small die gouge is seen on the lower vest.  Die gouge on the tail of the 9 running south.  Reverse:  Long die scratch running south and southwest from the E of CENT passing through the I of UNITED ending at the O in OF.  Die scratch running south from the left side of the S of STATES to the E of AMERICA, a small scratch to the right of the first scratch at the S of STSTES.  Multiple die scratches are seen running south from the bottom of the A of STATES to and below the C of AMERICA.

1945-S 1¢ WRPM-002

Description:  S/S West & Tilted

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die crack left of Lincoln’s eye running west.  Multiple die scratches starting at the left of the R of LIBERTY to the Y of LIBERTY, scratches run south as well as north of those letters ending below IN of IGWT.  Die scratch at the top left of the 1 in date running north.  Reverse:  Die gouge on the right edge of the last S of STATES.  Die gouge on the left inner edge of the lower left wheat stalk to the left in line with the U of UNITED.  On the left wheat stalk to the left of the die gouge is a dot sized die chip.

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse:  N/S die scratches above and to the upper left of the date as well as in the field in front of Lincoln’s nose ending below the US of TRUST.  NW/SE die scratch on Lincoln’s nose under the eye.  N/S die scratches above and below RTY of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Much of the reverse has N/S die scratches.  The inside of the D of UNITED has a scratch running N/S.

Description:  S/S Northeast

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches run from NNW to SSE through the 19 in the date.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1945-S 1¢ WDDR-001.  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the tips of the left wheat lines and the tops of the letters in EPU.  A strong die clash mark shows between the lower C and E in CENT.  North to south die scratches run through the UN of UNITED.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse is also a doubled die variety listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1945-S 1¢ WDDO-004.  An extra eyelid can be seen just below the normal eyelid.  N/S die scratches at the neck.  N/S Die scratches in the field behind the neck.  N/S die scratches above the TY of LIBERTY.  Die scratch in Lincoln’s nostril.  Obverse Stage B:  Thin die crack at the right edge of the lower 4 running through the 5 continues east to the rim.  Die gouge to the lower left of the W of WE.  Obverse Stage C:  Same as Stage B.  Reverse Stage A:  Die chip on the left edge of the F in OF.  Die chip to the right of the right wheat stalk.  Reverse Stage B:  Second Reverse.  N/S die scratches on most of reverse.  Strong die scratch to the left of the T of CENT.  Scratch to the left of the U of UNITED.  N/S die scratch running from the N of ONE to the N of CENT.  N/S die scratches inside the C of CENT.  Reverse Stage C:  Small die scratch on the bottom edge of the left wheat stalk tail.

Multiple die scratches are seen under Lincoln’s neck.  N/S die scratches behind Lincoln’s neck.  Many strong die scratches on LIBERTY running N/S.  Obverse Stage B:  Two small die gouges under Lincoln’s eye lid.  Reverse Stage A:  A slanted die scratch between the U & M of UNUM.  A slanted die scratch is seen above the M of UNUM.  Reverse Stage B:  Die scratches at the U & M of UNUM are greatly faded.

Description:  S/S South

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Clashed dies remnant seen in the field above Lincoln’s bow tie.  Strong N/S die scratches on both sides of Lincoln’s head are due to die abrasion to remove clash mark remnants.  Die scratch above and to the right of Lincoln’s ear running W/E.  Dot sized die chip on the right edge of the R of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Dot sized die gouge the right of the last A of AMERICA near the edge of the right wheat stalk.  Die scratch running north & south inside the O in OF.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Multiple die scratches running north from the lower bust through the 9 ending in the field in front of the top of the nose.  North south die scratches running from the lower back of Lincoln’s bust through the ERTY of LIBERTY ending below IN and GO of GOD.  Die gouge inside the U of TRUST.  Die scratch running west from under the bottom lip ending.  Two small die scratches in the eye pocket, one short die scratch running east from the right side of the eye lid tip and a second short die scratch under the eye lid running southeast.  Obverse Stage B:  Die scratches in eye pocket are gone.   Reverse Stage A:  Two die scratches one just under and another to the right of the E of ONE ending at the top of the right wheat stalk.  Die scratch at the base of the first A of AMERICA.  Die scratch running through the upper stem of the right wheat stalk.  Reverse Stage B:  Only one scratch is now visible to the right of the E of ONE.
