1916-D 50¢ WRPM-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description: D/D Southwest

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Obverse mint mark.  Two W by N/E by S die scratches inside the O of GOD.  Heavy die scratch east from the right upper side of the I in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  E/W die scratch connecting the top letters of TAT in STATES.

1939-D 50¢ WRPM-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  D/D North

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Series of nearly E/W die scratches through the lower area of the 9 in the date.  Reverse:  E/W die scratch connects the bottom of the OL in DOLLAR.  Die scratch north from the eagle's right side talon to the leg feathers.  Die scratch west from the eagle's right side lower leg to the leg plumage.

1939-D 50¢ WRPM-003

Description:  D/D South

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die crack across the top of the date.  Reverse:  V-shaped die scratch between the bottom of the second U and the S of PLURIBUS and the left side wing.  Die scratch south from the lower right side of the N of UNUM.  Die scratch SSW from the lower center of the M in UNUM.  Die scratches SSE from the bottom of the O in DOLLAR.

1941-D 50¢ WRPM-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  D/D Northwest

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouge at the left lower area of the long sun ray left of the gown.  Series of short SSW die scratches at the bottom of the long sun ray left of the gown.  Long die scratch from left center of the right hand sun ray that touches the flag, SSW to the sun.  Reverse:  NNW/SSE die crack through the left lower pine needles.  Die gouge at the left lower outside area of the D in DOLLAR.

1941-D 50¢ WRPM-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  D/D South

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Die crack north from about the 11:00 position on the sun.  Die crack west from the lower left side of the L in LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  New obverse die.  Die scratches NE from the back of the gown at the right leg.  SSW die scratches from the right lower hem of the gown, left of the right side shoe.  Obverse Stage C: Die scratches near the rim at the IBE area of LIBERTY.  Reverse Stage A:  Short die scratch NE from the N of UNITED.  Irregular die scratch east from the L of HALF to the D of DOLLAR.  E/W die scratch through the top of the AR of DOLLAR.  E/W die scratches below the A of DOLLAR.  Reverse Stage B:  Stage A markers are weaker.  Reverse Stage C:  Die crack from the left lower side of the mint mark SSW to the rim.  Light die crack centered below the L of HALF to the rim.

1941-D 50¢ WRPM-003

Description:  D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die chips on the lower right leg of the R in TRUST.  Short die scratch to the lower right of the first 1 in the date running south to the rim.  Reverse:  Irregular NE/SW die crack on the back right eagle's talon.  NNE/SSW die crack centered on the tail feathers.  A scratch running north to the wing feather intersects this crack.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two die scratches curve from west to east below the RUS in TRUST.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs SW from the bottom right of the D in UNITED.  Parallel die scratches run south from the first U in UNUM.

1942-D 50¢ WRPM-002

Description:  D/D South

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two short SSW die scratches from the left lower gown to the sunray.  Light die crack running along the right side of the O in GOD to the left upright of the U in TRUST.  Reverse:  Die crack slightly below the right center of the O in OF running SE through the F and to the wing, then becoming heavier and running along the upper contour of the wing.  Die crack from the rim at 5:00 running NE through the LL of DOLLAR and to the left side of the tail feathers.  Die crack NE from the right side of the tail feathers through the lower right side wing feathers.  Series of three different N/S die cracks on the left side of the pine needles and cones.

Description:  D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Heavy NNW/SSE die scratch between the two short rays NE from the sun.  Obverse Stage B: Scratch at the rays still present.  Reverse Stage A: NNE/SSW die scratches inside the O of DOLLAR to the right.  Light die crack from the bottom of the inner tail feather running WSW above the AR of DOLLAR.  Reverse Stage B: Scratch inside the O of DOLLAR still present.  Crack from the tail feather is stronger and runs to the bottom of the first L in DOLLAR.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1945-D 50¢ WDDO-002.  A Class II spread towards the center shows as tripling on the lower gown, the lower sun ray and the right shoe.  Die scratch east from the T running through the Y of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  E/W and ENE/WSW die scratches on the rock above the DOL of DOLLAR.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Light E/W die scratches through the Y of LIBERTY that runs to the D of GOD.  Short die scratch north from inside the right fork of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  N/S die scratch between the AM of AMERICA.  Die scratch south from the underside center of the M in AMERICA to the eagle's wing.

Description: S/S North

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 50¢ WDDO-001.  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the sun rays, the left lower gown and IN of IGWT.  Tripling shows on the far left lower gown.  E/W die scratch below the right side breast.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 50¢ WDDR-002.  A close spread shows on the plumage above both claws of the eagle, the lower pine needles closest to the eagle, and the F of HALF.  Light die scratches north above the eagle's head.
