1947-S 10¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A close spread towards the north shows on date, the designer’s initials, and the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch extends WSW from the upper left T of LIBERTY through the upper R of LIBERTY.  A die gouge extends SW from the rim at about 12 o’clock.  A small die gouge can be found south of the 1 in the date.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the upper ear.  Die scratches run SSE from the lower back of the head.  Die clash marks protrude from the upper part of the nose.  Reverse:  Two parallel die scratches run through the middle and the bottom of the flames at the top of the torch running WNW to ESE.  Die gouges can be found on the lower E and below the E of UNITED.  A die scratch extends SSW from the upper left I of DIME.

1947-S 10¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the letters of LIBERTY, the designer’s initials, and slightly on the date and the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Strong circular die scratches radiate on Roosevelt’s head.  A strong die gouge can be found at the bottom of the upper inside of the upper Y of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A short die gouge protrudes from the upper center right side of the E in UNITED.  Three parallel die scratches run SW to NE between the D of UNITED and the 1st S of STATES.  A die gouge can be found at the rim to the right of the 2nd S in STATES.  Two parallel die scratches run ENE from the bottom right side of the 2nd A in AMERICA to the dot.

1947-S 10¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread toward the center shows best on USA, ONE and EPU.  A CW spread from a pivot at 11:00 shows best on DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Strong short die scratches south from the bust are above and to the left of the designer's initials.  Strong die scratch north from the 9 of the date to the bust.  Short strong die scratches south from the bust above the 9 in the date.  Strong NNE/SSW die scratch inside the G of GOD.  Die scratch connects the G of GOD and the E of WE.  Strong die scratch east of the D of GOD and above the U in TRUST.  Reverse:  Strong die gouge above and to the right side of the R in PLURIBUS.  Numerous N/S die scratches through the mintmark.
