1970-D 10¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on USA, the torch flame, the upper olive leaves and branches, the upper oak leaves and branches, and slightly on ONE DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A light die scratch runs NNE from the top of the zero in the date.  Obverse Stage B:  A die gouge can be found NE of the zero in the date.  Reverse Stage A:  A light die scratch runs south from the bottom of the second U in PLURIBUS.  Light N/S die scratches can be found between the top of the torch and the upper olive leaves.  A die scratch runs SSW from the bottom right tip of the A in STATES.  Reverse Stage B:  The Stage A die scratches are weaker, but still visible.

1970-D 10¢ WDDR-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on STATES OF AMERICA, slightly on the torch flame, the upper oak leaves, UNUM, and slightly on ONE DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Die scratches run SW/NE between the Y of LIBERTY and the hair above the front of the forehead.  Obverse Stage B:  Nearly vertical die scratches can be found to the left of the lips, nose, and eyes.  Reverse Stage A:  A small die gouge can be found on the inner left side of the first U in PLURIBUS.  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the top of the oak leave that is to the right of the upper bands.  Reverse Stage B:  N/S die scratches run through the E and the P in PLURIBUS.  Die scratches run from the 2nd A in AMERICA to the right dot.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on STATES OF AMERICA, slightly on the torch flame, the upper oak leaves, UNUM, and slightly on ONE DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE above the 2nd T in TRUST.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found midway between the top of the A and M in AMERICA.  Short die gouges extend from the rim above the left side of the M in AMERICA.  A die scratch runs north from the top right side of the 2nd U in UNUM.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on STATES OF AMERICA, the left side of the torch flame, the upper most olive leaves, the upper oak leaves, UNUM, and slightly on DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Parallel SSW/NNE die scratches can be found to the left of Roosevelt’s lips.  Reverse:  A small die gouge touches the top of the in AMERICA.

Description:  A Class I CW shows on USA, the torch flame, the upper olive leaves and branches, the upper oak leaves and branches, E PLU, UNUM, and ONE DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A light SSW/NNE die scratch can be found to the left of the one in the date.  Obverse Stage B:  The Stage A die scratch is gone.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found near the rim south of the designer’s initials.  Reverse Stage A:  A light die scratch runs SSW from the bottom right of the second U in PLURIBUS.  A die scratch runs SSW from the bottom left of the N in UNUM.  Reverse Stage B:  Light, nearly vertical die scratches can be found between the upper most olive leaves and the top of the torch.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Parallel SSW/NNE die scratches can be found to the left of Roosevelt’s lips.  Reverse:  A small die gouge touches the top left of the R in AMERICA.
