1942-D 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  An extremely strong CW spread shows on IGWT, the date, the queue, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs east through the hair at the top of the head to the lower left of the T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A strong horizontal die gouge can be found in the upper O of DOLLAR.  A die crack runs from the US in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.  A die crack runs east from the back of the eagle’s head.  A strong die scratch connects the upper E and S in STATES.  A short strong die gouge protrudes from the upper right R in QUARTER.

1942-D 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY.  An extremely close spread towards the center shows on the I of IN and the TR of TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Several die scratches run NE from the upper right of the 4 in the date.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  A SW/NE die crack can be found in the forehead.  A die crack runs east from the top of the forehead into the hair.  An E/W die crack can be found in the hair above the forehead.  Reverse:  A die gouge runs NE from the lower right of the E in UNITED.  A die scratch runs SE from the leave above the R in QUARTER.  A die crack runs east from the back of the eagle’s head.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs from the S in PLURIBUS into the upper left wing.

1942-D 25¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  An extremely strong spread to the north shows on the eagle’s beak, the entire wreath, the first T and second S in STATES, under the arrows, and the underside of the inner feathers as they near the outer wing feathers.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs east through the hair at the top of the head.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower ribbon.  A die scratch runs ESE from the lower T in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs SW from the lower I in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.
