1943 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CW spread shows on IGWT, the date, the lower queue, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch runs WNW from the lower left I of LIBERTY.  A short die scratch runs SW from the upper left of the L in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die scratch connects the upper D of UNITED to the upper first S in STATES.  A strong die scratch runs from the center of the R to the upper T in QUARTER.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs ENE from the back of the eagle’s head.

1943 25¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CCW spread shows on IGWT, the lower queue, and the hair details on the lower back of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NW from the lower left R of LIBERTY.  Two short die gouges runs west from the center left of the B in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  None noted.

1943 25¢ WDDO-003          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CCW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on LIBERTY, the queue and ribbon, the date, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IN.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs ESE from the upper right R of LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs WSW from just below the center of the left side of the B of LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found just below the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  None noted.

1943 25¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 7:00 shows on LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, the 3 in the date, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs WSW/ENE through the upper hair extending through the lower T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

1943 25¢ WDDO-005          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  Strong extra thickness plus some separation lines spread towards the center show on IGWT, LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found just to the right of the bottom of the I in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs WNW from the bottom right of the L in LIBERTY.  Two parallel die scratches run across the lower ribbon.  A short die scratch runs NNW from the upper right G in GOD.  Reverse:  The reverse is a minor doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled die Files as 1943 25¢ WDDR-005.  A slight CW spread shows on UNITED STATES and QUARTER.  A horizontal die scratch runs from the upper R to the upper C in AMERICA.

1943 25¢ WDDO-006          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  An extremely strong CW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY the date, the queue and the ribbon, the designer’s initials, the lips, the nose, the eyelid and the eyebrow.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two parallel SW/NE die scratches run along the front of the forehead just above the eyebrow.  Numerous horizontal die scratches can be found below the L in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Numerous circular die scratches run through the eagle’s upper right body and the right wing.

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, the date, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the lower I in LIBERTY.  Numerous N/S die scratches can be found in the field to the right of the head.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found below the back of the eagle’s beak.  A SW/NE die scratch runs through the upper AR in DOLLAR and extends to the lower left wing.

Description:  A spread to the north shows on IGWT, the TY in LIBERTY, the date, the lower ribbon, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found between the nostril and the cheek.  A short die scratch runs NE from the hair below the lower right R in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A heavy die scratch runs through the upper center of the NIT of UNITED.  A horizontal die scratch can be found inside the upper U in UNITED.  A light die scratch runs NE from the center of the E to the second T in STATES.

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows LIBERTY, the date, the lower ribbon, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs east through the upper forehead and into the upper hair.  Die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs through the upper RIC in AMERICA.  A die crack runs east from the center of the wreath to the top of the A in QUARTER.  A die crack runs from the lower right wing through the upper QUAR in QUARTER.  A die crack runs from the US in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.  Die cracks run down both wings.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on USA and slightly on QUARTER DOLLAR.  It is best seen on the letters with lower serifs.
