1946-D 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on IGWT, the bottom of the ribbon, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A heavy die scratch runs from the lower 4 to the 6.  A die scratch runs from the lower 9 to the left end of the horizontal bar of the 4.  A short heavy die gouge runs east from the lower 1,  A strong die scratch runs above the center bar of the E in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A heavy die gouge connects the lower Q and U in QUARTER.  A strong die scratch runs through the lower ARTER DOLLAR.  A short strong die gouge runs west from the top of the I in AMERICA.  Numerous other die scratches run throughout USA.

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust into the lower queue.  Reverse:  The reverse is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-D 25¢ WRPM-015.  It is a D/D Tilted (Rotated).

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on IGWT and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  A die gouge can be found below the bust west of the bottom of the ribbon.  Reverse:  None significant.

Description:  A close CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches run WSW from the forehead.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs from the BUS in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle’s left wing.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong die crack runs across the base of the bust with a die chip to the left of the designer’s initials.  A light horizontal die crack can be found in the upper hair.  Reverse:  A die crack can be found on the eagle’s right wing.
