Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  None significant.

1948 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A close CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A pattern of circular die scratches can be found to the right of the bust running into the queue.  Reverse:  A strong die gouge extends SW from the lower first T in STATES.  Short die gouges run west from the upper left of the R in AMERICA.  A short die gouge runs east from the bottom of the I in AMERICA.  A pattern of circular die scratches can be found running throughout the eagle.

1948 25¢ WDDO-003          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class I CW spread shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the lower ribbon, IGWT, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A horizontal die gouge can be found near the rim to the left of the upper L in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs E/W through the upper forehead and into the hair.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 10:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the lower ribbon, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge runs ENE from inside the center of the loop of the 9.  Reverse:  A die gouge runs SSW from the lower left of the A in STATES through the upper right of the E in EPU.

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 11:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the lower ribbon, slightly on IGWT, and on the TY in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge above the right end of the horizontal bar of the L in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the lower left branch.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs from the bottom right of the L to the bottom left of the B in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.
