1951-D 25¢ WMHO-001          Master Hub Doubling

Description:  A moderate CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Will vary on each working die.  Reverse:  Will vary on each working die.

Comments:  Because the master hub is designed to be used over a period of several years, this one was used during the period from 1951 through 1954.  Consequently all Washington quarters during that period of time will show this doubling.  Differences in the appearance of the doubling will be due to wear on the working hubs, wear on the working dies, and wear on the coins themselves.

1951-D 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs from the lower E to the lower R in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs WSW/ENE across the upper forehead.  A die crack runs E/W through the upper hair.  Reverse:  Two short parallel die scratches run ESE from the lower O in OF.

1951-D 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A very close spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY where it is best seen on the lower R.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Three die cracks run E/W through the upper hair with the lowest one extending into the forehead.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust extending into the lower ribbon on the one side and to the upper first one in the date on the other side.  Reverse:  A die crack runs from the E in EPU down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs from the US in PLURIBUS down the eagle’s left wing ending below the I in AMERICA.

1951-D 25¢ WDDR-001

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, AMERICA, both of the branch ends, and the lower left leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  The reverse is a minor RPM variety that is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1951-D 25c WRPM-008.  It is a D/D Tilted (Rotated).  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.
