1968-D 25¢ WMHR-001          Master Hub Doubling

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on QUARTER DOLLAR and the lower wreath with all doubling decreasing in spread from left to right.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die markers will vary on the individual working dies affected.  Reverse:  The leave directly to the left of the arrowheads is pointed at the top.  Die markers will vary on the individual working dies affected.

Comments:  Because this was a master hub it was intended to be used over a period of several years.  Working dies with the exact same doubling are known to exist for the years 1968 through 1974 from all three Mints including proof coins.  Differences in the appearance of the doubling will result from master hub wear, master die wear, working hub wear, working die wear, as well as coin wear.  A second similar doubled master hub exists for this time period with the main difference being the leave directly to the left of the arrowheads.  On the second doubled master hub that leave is rounded at the top.














1968-D 25¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  An extremely strong Class I CCW spread shows on USA, EPU, QUARTER DOLLAR, the wreath, and both tips of the eagle’s wings.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None noted.  Reverse:  A diagonal die scratch can be found to the left of the A in DOLLAR.  A short die scratch extends from the bottom center of the A in STATES.  A vertical die scratch can be found above the bottom of the L in PLURIBUS.

1968-D 25¢ WDDR-002

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on USA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs south from the tip of the nose.  Reverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found on the right side of the D in UNITED.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found near the front of the arrow shafts.
