1960-D 1¢ WRPM-268          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  D & D West and Tilted.  A totally separated D west of the main D is rotated about 70 degrees CW and appears to be sitting on the front of the vest.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found above and between the six and zero in the date.  A die scratch runs SW/NE inside the upper nine in the date.  A short die scratch runs north from the top left of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die scratch curves east from the right side of the center of the T in CENT.

Comments:  This one is not easy to see.  You need to play with the lighting to see the nearly complete curvature of the D mint mark.  The errant punch is not completely missing the vertical bar of the D and there are die scratches around the misplaced D further making it difficult to see.  I suspect that this one will be met with skepticism by some.

1960-D 1¢ WRPM-269          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  D & D Wide North.  An inverted D mint mark shows at the top right of the 6 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  None significant.

Comments:  It is a later die state that was examined resulting in a weak image of the inverted D mint mark.  The vertical bar is somewhat strong while the curve of the alleged D is fairly weak.  I would love to see an earlier die state of this interesting variety which is sure to create a stir in die variety circles.
