Description: D/D/D/D/D/D South, South, South, South and Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Die scratch from the I to the B of LIBERTY, slightly NE. Reverse: Large die chip south of the left lower edge of the E of EPU.

Comments: The secondary punches to the south may prove to be machine doubling. I would like to see an example in person to confirm this.






1956-D 10¢ WRPM-002

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Strong NW/SE die scratch below the 1 in the date. NW/SE die scratches intersect the GO in GOD and the E in WE. E/W die scratch intersects the previous die scratch below GOD. Die scratch extends NE from the D in GOD and runs through the neck. Long NW/SE die scratch behind the head. Die gouge below and to the right of the N in IN. Die gouge between the bottom of the B and E in LIBERTY. Reverse: Small die chip on the upper olive leaves. N/S die scratch between the A in STATES and the upper olive leaves. N/S die scratches through the olive branch. Strong NW/SE die scratch through the first U in PLURIBUS. Strong N/S die scratch between the right two oak leaf clusters. Strong die scratches connect the C and A in AMERICA. Die scratches between the E in DIME and the dot. Die gouge left of the upper olive leaves.

1956-D 10¢ WRPM-003

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Many crisscrossing die scratches in the left obverse fields. Two die scratches connect the right side of the Y in LIBERTY to the rim above the right side of the T in LIBERTY. Short strong N/S die scratch behind the head. Strong NW/SE die scratch from the nose to the upper lip. NW/SE die scratches through the 5 in the date. Die gouge in the upper opening of the E in LIBERTY. Die gouges left of the top of the 1 in the date. Die gouge touches the bottom of the 1 in the date. Weak die gouge inside the upper opening of the 9 in the date. Reverse: Many thin crisscrossing die scratches in the fields. Weak die clash remnants through the branches. Multiple strong curving and intersecting die scratches above the upper oak leaves and below AMERICA. Curving die scratch through the U in UNITED. N/S die scratch below the last U in PLURIBUS. Two die gouges left of the first T in STATES. Die gouge below the N in UNITED.

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Two N/S die scratches right of the designer’s initials. Die scratch north from the forehead extending right of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse: N/S die scratch, nearly centered, inside the O in OF. Die scratch S by W from the left lower oak branch through the first U in UNUM.

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouge centered between the B and E of LIBERTY. N/S die scratch on the back of the neck. Reverse: NNW/SSE die scratch right of center from the first ST in STATES. Die scratch north from the lower tail of the last S in STATES. Die chip left of center from the T in UNITED. Die crack from the mintmark running ESE above the torch base.

Die Markers: Obverse: Long concentric die scratch at the rim from the T in LIBERTY to 12 o'clock. Strong NE/SW die scratch in front of the eye. N/S die scratch in front of the lips. Weak NE/SW die scratches in front of the forehead. Reverse: N/S die scratches between the lower olive and the left olive leaf cluster. NE/SW die scratch above the last U in PLURIBUS. Many die gouges between and below the ATES in STATES. Die gouge below the R in AMERICA. Die gouge above the M in DIME.

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Large die break on the nose. A few short NW/SE die scratches in the hair at the back of the head. N-shaped die scratches behind the head. Short N/S die scratch in front of the bridge of the nose. Large die gouge well above the right side of the 5 in the date. Reverse: Strong N/S die scratch between the upper torch and the upper oak leaf cluster. A few strong die scratches extend SE from the flame. N/S die scratches between the rightmost two oak leaf clusters. Weak N/S die scratches through the olive branch. Die gouge between the tops of the T and E in STATES. Die gouge above the right side of the M in UNUM. Die gouge touches the upper left side of the first U in PLURIBUS.
