1984-D 1¢ Damaged Mint Mark Punch

Description: An apparent upright bar to the east is the result of a damaged mint mark punch. It is not a RPM.

Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouge centered under TR in TRUST. Reverse: Criss-crossing die scratches are present east of UNI in UNITED. Two die scratches run roughly SW to NE inside the lower first S in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: Die scratch west by south from slightly below left center of the L in LIBERTY. Stage B: Die scratch worn away by L in LIBERTY.  Die gouges east, south, and west of mint mark.  Multiple die gouges northeast of 4 in date.  Die gouge south of E in LIBERTY.  Reverse: Stage A: No prominent die markers visible. Stage B: Die gouge right of N in UNITED.

Die Markers: Obverse: Die scratch SE from the upper lip. Die scratch running NNE from E in LIBERTY. Die scratch running south from chin. Die scratch running from E in WE to first T in TRUST. Reverse: Two small die chips (dots) at the top of bay seven.

Die Markers: Obverse: Gouge directly south of I in IN.  Gouge north of B in LIBERTY.  Large gouge directly behind Lincoln’s neck.  Gouges on 9 and inside of the opening of the 4 in the date. Reverse: Gouge above left cornice, level with the first S in STATES.  Die gouges below and right of the upper second A in AMERICA.  Die gouge touching upper right side of N in ONE. Die gouge on the inside lower curve of the O in ONE. Die cracks on upper column 1 and 2.

Description: D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: Die gouge under first T in TRUST.  Die gouge on bust NE of VDB.  Die scratches run mostly east to west throughout the right field.  Die scratches run mostly SW to NE through the left field.  Strong die scratch runs NE from lower lip, crossing over a finer series of E-W oriented die scratches running from the mouth. A die gouge shows between the lips. Stage B: All die gouges still present.  Die scratches all worn away.  Strong die gouge right of chin.  Die gouge under left side of O in GOD.  Reverse: Stage A: Die gouge above the end of the lowest crossbar of the E in AMERICA. Die gouge well below the E in AMERICA. A series of die gouges under the C and A in AMERICA.  Mostly east to west die scratches through upper half of reverse.  Mostly WNW to ESE die scratches through lower third of reverse.  Die clash bay 9. Stage B: New reverse die.  A die gouge shows on the lower right edge of the left vertical bar of the N in ONE. A small die gouge shows on the left Memorial cornice above Bay 1.  Die gouge under left side of T in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouge above right side of 4 in the date.  Die gouge between lower middle 19 in the date.  Die damage inside U in TRUST.  Die gouges south and southeast of second T in TRUST.  Die gouge centered above RT in LIBERTY. Reverse: Heavy die gouge touching lower left first A in AMERICA.  Die gouge on lower right R in AMERICA.  Die gouge between upper middle of NT in CENT.  Die gouge touching inside of right side of N in ONE.  Die gouge touching outer right side of O in ONE.  Die gouges run roughly NNW in right memorial bays.

Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouges NW of mint mark.  Small die gouge (dot) under chin and under the nose.  Light die gouge in the hair centered below the TR in TRUST. Die gouge just above the tip of Lincoln’s hair under R in TRUST.  Three strong die gouges on jacket west of lower bow tie.  Die gouge well below BE in LIBERTY. Die damage shows along the right edge of Column 12. Reverse: Light die gouge at rim under N in ONE. Heavy abrasion lines, oriented SW-NE show above ONE CENT.
