1989-D 1¢ Damaged Mint Mark Punch #1

Description: An apparent split upper serif is the result of a damaged mint mark punch. It is not a RPM.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1989-D 1¢ Damaged Mint Mark Punch #2

Description: Apparent doubling to the east of the vertical bar is the result of a damaged mint mark punch. It is not a RPM.

Comments: Example pictured is also WRPM-018 with a D/D West (at the arrows). The damaged mint mark punch is to the east inside the mint mark.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: Die gouge left of W in WE.  Die scratches run directly east from lower G and D in GOD.  Die chips (dots) in vest and west of mint mark.  Fine die scratches running northeast in front of Lincoln’s chin. Stage B: Die chip in upper right 9.  Die dot above right side of mint mark.  Die gouge left of W in WE still present.  Die scratches from G and D in GOD very weak.  Die gouge in front of chin directly above 9.  Horizontal die gouge above I in LIBERTY. Stage C: Die chip in the field above the 8 in the date. Die chip in 9 still present.  Die dot above right side of mint mark still present. Stage D: Die chip above 9 is abraded away. Die chip in 9 still present.  Die dot above right side of mint mark still present. Reverse: Stage A: Die gouge south centered between ER of AMERICA.  Die gouge (dot) above O in ONE just below base of memorial.  Light die crack left memorial base. Stage B: Die gouge above O in ONE still present.  Die gouge south centered between ER of AMERICA very weak.  Multiple die gouges under second S in STATES.  N/S die scratch inside the upper area of the O in OF.  Die scratch south center below the lower horizontal bar of the F in OF.  Light die crack left memorial base.  Die gouge right of second A in AMERICA.  Die gouges right of T in CENT. Stage C: N/S die scratch inside the upper area of the O in OF.  Die scratch south center below the lower horizontal bar of the F in OF.  Light die crack left memorial base. Stage D: Die scratches at OF are weak.  Die crack at the left bottom of the memorial base.  NE die crack on the roof base where it meets the cornice.

Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: A faint die scratch runs SSE from the tail of the 1 in the date.  A light die gouge shows to the northeast of the upper eyelid.  Heavy die gouges connected to a N-S die scratch show to the right of the E in WE.  A small die gouge (dot) shows on the northeast edge of the B in VDB. A did gouge shows on the shoulder, well north of the B in VDB. Stage B: SSE die scratch from 1 in date extremely faint.  All other Stage A markers much weaker but visible.  Die gouge touching under left side of 8 in the date.  Die gouge south of second T in TRUST.  Several small die gouges show behind Lincoln’s lower hair.  Reverse: Stage A: A die gouge shows on the left memorial base under column 1.  A die chip and crack runs from the upper right side of O in ONE into the upper left corner of the N in ONE.  A pair of strong die gouges show to the east of the lower E in ONE.  Stage B: New reverse die.  A tiny die gouge shows in the field left of column 1.  A die gouge shows in the field north of the F in FG.
