1971 $1 WDDO-001

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the letters of IGWT and slightly on the LIB of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Two parallel die scratches run SE from the bottom of the O in GOD to the top of the U in TRUST.  Two parallel die scratches run SE from the bottom right of the W in WE and the top right of the 2nd T in TRUST.  Light rotational die scratches can be found in the field surrounding the head of Eisenhower.  Obverse Stage B:  The Stage A die scratches are very weak, but still visible when viewed at the proper angle.  A diagonal die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the O in GOD.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1971 $1 WDDR-001A.  Reverse Stage B:  The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1971 $1 WDDR-001B.

Comments:  This variety was listed in The Authoritative Reference on Esienhower Dollars as DDO-001.  In that reference the reverse was not listed as a doubled die.

1971 $1 WDDR-001

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the lower serifs of ONE DOLLAR, the upper serifs of UNITED, the upper serifs of AMERICA, stars 10 through 13, and stars 1 through 3.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1971 $1 WDDO-001A.  Obverse Stage B:  The obverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1971 $1 WDDO-001B.  Reverse Stage A:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found inside the top of the R in DOLLAR.  A die scratch runs ESE from the upper right 2nd L in DOLLAR.  A die gouge can be found below the D in UNITED.  A die scratch runs ESE from the center right of the F in OF.  Parallel die scratches run WNW from the left side of star 8.  A die scratch runs ESE from the top of star 9.  Reverse Stage B:  The Stage A markers are still visible, but they are very weak.
