1953 1¢ Pr WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on the 19 of the date.  A lesser spread towards the center shows on the ERTY of LIBERTY.  Extra thickness shows on the eyelid with a notch on the right tip.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A diagonal die scratch can be found inside the upper loop of the 9.  A die gouge (dot) can be found to the left of the 1 in the date.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found between the upper N of IN and G of GOD.  Reverse:  A die gouge (dot) can be found SE of the tip of the right wheat stem.

1953 1¢ WDDO-004         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A spread to the north shows on the IBERTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch runs NE from the lower right 9.  Parallel die scratches run from SSW to NNE between the bowtie and the underside of the chin.  A short die scratch runs from SW to NE to the right of the bowtie.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs north from the bottom right of the E in ONE.  A die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the T in CENT.  A nearly horizontal die scratch can be found above the D in UNITED and the STA in STATES.  Parallel die scratches run from WNW to ESE above the NITE of UNITED.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on EPU and the dots where the spread decreases from left to right.  Doubling also shows on the left wheat ear and stem.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A short, vertical die gouge can be found at the rim above the 2nd U in PLURIBUS.
