Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches run SSE from the back underside of the chin.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE through the leaves to the right of the upper bands.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None noted.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1940-D 10¢ WDDR-001.  Doubling shows on STATES OF, the top of the axe, the top of the fasces, and the upper right leaves.  The reverse is also an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1940-D 10¢ WRPM-005.  It is a D/D North.  A die scratch runs SSE from the right side of the center bands.

1940-D 10¢ WDDO-009

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and very slightly on the letters of IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NE from the bottom of the 1 to the center left of the 9.  A die scratch runs ENE from the upper right 9.  A die scratch runs ESE from the upper right L in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs from SW to NE through the lower E and central D of UNITED.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found under the left side of the A in STATES.  A short die gouge protrudes from the center left C in AMERICA.

1940-D 10¢ WDDO-010

Description:  A very close Class II spread towards the center shows on the date and the LIB in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short NNW/SSE die gouge can be found below the E in WE.  A die crack runs NNE from the rim at about 6:30 into the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found between the M and E in DIME.

1940-D 10¢ WDDO-011

Description:  A very close Class II spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short SW/NE die scratch can be found above the R in TRUST.  Several SSW/NNE die scratches can be found to the left of, and running above the designer’s initials.  A SSW/NNE die crack can be found on the lower back of the cheek.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1940-D 10¢ WDDR-006.  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on USA, the upper right branch and leaves, and the top of the axe and fasces.  Two die scratches from the ribbon at the bottom of the fasces run SE and east meeting at the top left of the D in DIME.  A die gouge protrudes from the top left of the F in OF.  A die gouge protrudes from the leave under the top dot.

1940-D 10¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Doubling shows on STATES OF, the top of the axe, the top of the fasces, and the upper right leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1940-D 10¢ WDDO-004.  A spread towards the center shows on the date.  Obverse Stage B:  A new obverse that is not a doubled die is now paired with the reverse.  No significant die markers were detected.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1940-D 10¢ WRPM-005.  It is a D/D North.  A die scratch runs SSE from the right side of the center bands.  Reverse Stage B:  The die scratch from the center bands has been abraded away.  Light abrasion scratches mostly running from SSW to NNE can be seen throughout the right side of the reverse.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on STATES OF AMERICA and the uppermost leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch runs from west to east through the top of the R in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  The reverse is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1940-D 10¢ WRPM-008.  It is a D/D North.  A die scratch runs SW from the center of the A in STATES.  A die crack runs through the top of the ME in AMERICA.  Die scratches form a “X” to the left of the right star.
