1985 1¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread towards the center shows on the date, IGWT, the hair at the top of the head, the right bottom of the bust, and the LI in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short vertical die scratch can be found to the right of the first T in TRUST.  Reverse:  A short diagonal die gouge can be found SW of the E in EPU.  A short diagonal die scratch can be found below the second Memorial column.  A die clash mark can be found in the lower third bay.  Numerous E/W die scratches can be found above and below the Memorial.

1985 1¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Numerous die scratches run SW/NE in front of and behind the bust.  Reverse:  None significant.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date and the right bottom of the bust.  Light extra thickness shows on IGWT and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die gouge can be found in the field to the left of the shoulder.  Obverse Stage B:  VLDS.  A die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the back of the head.  Reverse Stage A:  None significant.  Reverse Stage B:  A small die gouge can be found between the U and N in UNITED.

Description:  Extra thickness shows on the date, LIBERTY, and IGWT.  A close spread towards the center shows on the center of the bottom of the bust.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found south of the right end of the Memorial steps.

Description:  Extra thickness along with some notching and separation lines show on AMERICA.  An earlier die state may show more doubling.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two die gouges (dots) can be found in the field below IN and behind the head.  Reverse:  LDS with no significant die markers noted.

1985 1¢ WDDR-002

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on ONE CENT, USA, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two parallel die scratches run from NW to SE through the upper 9.  A nearly horizontal die scratch runs through the center of the TY in LIBERTY.  Two parallel die scratches run NE from the right side of the G in GOD.  Numerous other die scratches, too many to list here, can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  A small die gouge protrudes from the lower left side of the C in CENT.  A short, horizontal die gouge can be found to the left of the top of the first Memorial column.

Description:  A Class II spread toward the center shows on USA, EPU, ONE CENT, and the designer’s initials.  The strongest spread can be found on the letters of AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch runs NNE from the lower right of the G in GOD.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found between the lower A and 2nd T in STATES.  A die gouge runs through the bottom of the statue.  A short die gouge protrudes from the lower left of the C in CENT.
