1946-P,D,S 10¢ WWHO-001          Doubled Working Hub

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Will vary on the individual working dies.  Reverse:  Will vary on the individual working dies.

Comments:  Slight differences in the appearance of the doubling may be seen on the working dies.  A number of factors can contribute to these differences including wear to the working hub, wear to the working die, abrading the working die, and wear to the coins.








1946 10¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A Class II spread toward the center shows on the designer’s initials and the date.  Lighter doubling shows on WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  NE/SW die scratches through the 46 of the date.  WNW/ESE die scratches through GOD WE TRUST.  Long die scratch west from the lower area of the L in LIBERTY to the I of IN.  Obverse Stage B: Doubling is much weaker.  Short die scratch NW from about left center of the 4 in the date.  Light die cracks in the upper rear hair area.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse of this variety has the doubling seen on WWHR-001.  Die scratches running E/W through DIM of DIME.  Short die scratch north from the right upper inside of the M in DIME.  NE/SW die scratches through the N of UNUM.  Short die gouge south from the right lower oak leaf.  Short die gouge north from the top of the lower olive.  Reverse Stage B: Die crack from the rim at 2:00 south through the left side of the M in AMERICA.  Die scratch curving down from the right side of the torch base.  Most Stage A markers gone except for weak gouges from the olive and oak leaf.

Comments:  This variety was previously listed as WDDO-026 but was reassigned after the discovery of the doubled obverse working hub left large “holes” in the listings.  While this variety is similar to WWHO-001, the doubling is far stronger on the date than that seen on the doubled working hub.










1946 10¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the back of the neck, IGWT and the LIBE of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Long die scratch NE from the hair to the rim at 12:00.  Two short SW scratches from the rim just west of the previous scratch.  Die scratch from upper right of the B, through ER to upper T of LIBERTY.  Numerous short die scratches NW from the nose.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety has the doubling seen on WWHR-001.  Short NW/SE die scratch on the upper oak leaves.  Die chips below the right hand lower olive leaves.  WNW/ESE die scratch through the upper opening of the M in AMERICA.

1946 10¢ WDDO-003          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A spread NNW shows on the date, bottom of the neck, the ear, IGWT and the L of LIBERTY.  A close spread toward the center shows on ERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Strong die gouge between the lower Y of LIBERTY and the hair just above the forehead.  Short, strong N/S die gouge between the designer's initials and the 1 in the date.  Obverse Stage B: Short NW/SE die gouge in the field to the right of the date.  Stage A markers weaker but present.  Reverse Stage A:  Two long E/W die scratches between the E of ONE and D of DIME.  Die dent NW/SE through the D of DIME.  Series of E/W die scratches through and below ER of AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B: Die dent at the D of DIME now has the appearance of a split upper serif.  Stage A markers present but weaker.

1946 10¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, designer's initials, and light on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Short die scratches NNW above the 9 in the date.  Reverse:  Die crack from the rim at 5:30 running north along the left side of the I in DIME and turning NW to the bottom of the torch holder.

1946 10¢ WDDO-005

Description: A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY, IGWT, the designer's initials, date, light on the lower profile, light on the bust and the nostril.  Some tripling shows on the designer's initials, IGWT, and the 4 of the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Long die scratches SW from the bottom of the nose.  Reverse:  Die gouge (dot) west from the very top of the left side of the torch holder.  Die scratch running north by east and then turning NNE from the right side of the D in DIME.

1946 10¢ WDDO-006          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows best on the date, the designer's initials, the bust, the back of the neck, the profile, and TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Die gouge (dot) to the left of the eye, which is the key marker in determining the reverse die change.  SSW die scratches from the bust through the top of the 1 in the date.  Short E/W die scratches connect the BE of LIBERTY on the lower area.  Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers gone except gouge left of the eye.  N/S die gouge to the left of the designer's initials.  Light abrasion above the upper lip.  Obverse Stage C: Die gouge abraded away left of designer's initials and a new N/S gouge appears to the right of the initials.  Obverse Stage D: NNW/SSE die scratches in the field to the left of the lower forehead and nose.  Designer's initials very weak.  Doubling not as strong.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch SW from the torch holder to the right upper olive leaf.  Die scratch SE from the rim above the IC of AMERICA.  X-shaped die scratches to the right of the right lower oak leaves.  Reverse Stage B: New reverse die.  Series of die scratches in a north/south direction between the upper oak leaf and the flame.  Short E/W die scratch centered under the opening of the A in STATES.  NE/SW die scratch inside the D of UNITED.  NE/SW die scratch connects the top of the ED of UNITED.   Reverse Stage C: Stage B markers gone.  Die gouge (dot) in the field to the right of the center bar of the E in ONE.  Small die gouge (dot) centered between the P and L of PLURIBUS.  Die scratch NE from the left upright of the first U in PLURIBUS.  Die scratch SE from the upper horizontal bar of the E in ONE on the right side.  Reverse Stage D: Stage C markers weak but still present.  New die gouges below the F in OF.

Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY.

Description:  A Class V CW spread shows on the date, the designer's initials, the lower back of the head, the back of the neck, the bottom of the neck, and IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Short horizontal die scratch in the hair above the top back of the forehead.  Obverse Stage B:  Die crack from the front point of the lower bust south to the rim.  Reverse:  Die scratch parallel to the lower left leg of the A in STATES.  Die scratch SE from the leaf stem above the R in PLURIBUS.  Reverse Stage B:  SSW die scratches between the right upper and lower oak leaves.  Die clash on the entire left side of the olive leaves.

Description:  A Class V CCW spread from a pivot at about 5:00 shows on the RTY of LIBERTY and the hair details at the top front of the head

Die Markers: Obverse: Type I.  NNE/SSW die scratch connecting the fork and the vertical bar on the right side of the Y in LIBERTY.  NE/SW die scratch through the right leg of the R of LIBERTY.  Reverse: NW/SE die scratch through the left leg of the first A in AMERICA.  Short, heavy WSW/ENE die gouge between the E of EPU and the U of UNITED.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on LIBERTY.  The “doubling” to the date, designer’s initials, and IGWT looks like a dual hubbing from the doubled working hub creating tripling, or even quadrupling.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Die scratch north from the upper outside area of the nose.  Short die scratch south from the bust NW of the J in the designer's initials.  NE/SW die scratches between the B and E of LIBERTY with a short heavy N/S gouge.  Reverse:  NNE/SSW die scratch across the lower inside opening of the E in STATES.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on LIBERTY.  The “doubling” to the date, designer’s initials, and IGWT looks like a dual hubbing from the doubled working hub creating tripling, or even quadrupling.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Major cluster of small die gouges (dots) spread over the area from the eye to ear.  ENE/WSW die scratch connects the top of the 1and 9 in the date.  Die scratch NNW from the lower lip.  Reverse:  Large die chip on the upper side of the center bar of the E in STATES.  Light die scratch NE from the upper band of the torch holder to the left upper oak leaf.

Description:  A class II spread towards the center shows on the designer's initials, the date, the lower bust, IGWT, and the ear.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Short die gouge SW from the upper left R of LIBERTY.  Four short die scratches south from the upper eyelid.  Die clash marks on upper nose.  NE/SW die scratch at the brow.  N/S die scratch from the chin running through the lower lip and almost to nose.  Series of N/S scratches in the field between the brow and the ER of LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B: All stage A markers are weak.  Small die gouge inside the forks of the Y of LIBERTY closer to the left.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch WSW from the lower E of STATES.  Die scratch NW from the upper P of PLURIBUS to olive leaf.  Die scratch from the lower right D of UNITED, NE through the first S of STATES to the rim.  Weak die clash from below the stem of the olive branch and along the left side of the olive branch.  NNE/SSW die scratches through the lower opening of the M in DIME.  Two short die gouges left center on the outside of the first A in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers are present but weaker.  Die gouge in the field east from the bottom of the flame.

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the designer's initials and the Y of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Die gouge (dot) east of the head on the temple.  Small die gougess and light scratches on the left side of all the letters of LIBERTY.  Die scratch NW from the upper right of the S of TRUST.  Short NW die scratches from the left side of IN.  Long N/S die scratch west of the forehead.  Light scratches below the 4 of the date.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDR-005.  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 4:00 shows on USA, the left side of the flame, and the left leaves, EPU, ONE DIME and the right leaves.  Tripling shows on the lower AMER of AMERICA.  Three die scratches NW from the upper acorn into the leaf.  Series of die scratches west of the lower olive running WNW/ESE.  Light die scratches from the A of STATES running SE through the upper flame.

Description:  A Class V CW spread shows best on LIBERTY, the front of the hair and the nostril from a pivot at 4:00.

1946 10¢ WDDO-015          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the bust, the lower nose, nostril, IGWT, and LIBERTY.

DieMarkers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Long NW die scratch from the rim at 3:00 nearly to the back of the head.  Series of  N/S die scratches in the area of the neck and jaw where the crease forms. Die scratch at the upper nose west of the eye.  SE die scratch from the back of the neck near the bust.  Heavy die gouge above the U of TRUST from die polishing.  Strong die scratch, south from the throat nearly to the last T of TRUST.  The S in the designer's initials is much stronger to the right.  Obverse Stage B: N/S die scratch on the ear NE of the earlobe.  Die gouge at the upper chin area.  Series of E/W die scratches above the point of the bust and above TRUST.  Weaker stage A markers.  Obverse Stage C: Three N/S die scratches in the field west of the upper lip.  N/S die scratch connecting the upper nose and the brow.  Series of NNE/SSW die scratches in the BERTY area of LIBERTY.  Weaker stage B markers.  Stage A markers are weak to gone.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse of this stage is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDR-008 (formerly WDDR-013).  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at 11:00 shows on UNUM, OF AMERICA, ONE DIME and the dots.  Die clash from the left side of the olive leaves to the stem.  Die scratches NNE/SSW between the oak stem and the IM of DIME.  Die scratches north from both U's of UNUM extending to both sides of the left acorn.  Reverse Stage B:  New reverse die.  The reverse of this stage is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDR-006.  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on ONE DIME, the E PLUR of EPU, and UNITED.  SW/NE die scratches through the US and first U of PLURIBUS UNUM and the acorn.  Die scratch south from the lower right N of UNUM.  N/S die scratch between the top olive leaf and the A of STATES.  Reverse Stage C: N/S Die scratches throughout the olive branch and at both sides of the torch holder.  New scratch from the right lower leg of the N in UNUM curving toward the oak stem.  Stage B scratches are very weak.

Description:  A Class V CCW spread from a pivot at about 5:00 shows on LIBERTY, the hair details on the top of the head, the back of the head, the back of the neck, the lower bust, the eye, and the ear.  Very light doubling shows on IGWT and the designer's initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type II.  Three die gouges near the rim east of the Y in LIBERTY.  Die scratch from the bottom of the Y in LIBERTY to the uppermost frontal hair.  Obverse Stage B: Series of short die scratches south and southwest of the designer's initials, running N/S.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch N/S to the left of the D in DIME.  Die scratches east from the E in AMERICA to the R.  Die gouge on the outside lower area of the R in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B: Die scratch from the left dot through the upper E of EPU to the lower olive.  Very short die scratch north from the lower (leaf) stem of the olive branch.

1946 10¢ WDDO-017          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 11:00 shows on the date, designer's initials, bottom of the bust, IGWT, and the back of the neck.  Slight doubling also shows on the LIB of LIBERTY and the top of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Type I.  Weak die clash mark at the brow and west of the eye on the nose.  Die scratch SSW from the rim just touching the left-side horizontal bar of the T and running through the right lower leg of the R in LIBERTY into the field.  N/S die scratch east of the earlobe.  Series of N/S die scratches in the hair, east of the ear.  Die scratch SW from the left lower B in LIBERTY to the chin.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety has the doubling from the doubled reverse working hub identified as WWHR-001.  SE die scratch from the upper F to the lower first A in OF AMERICA.  Series of heavy die SE die scratches from the L of PLURIBUS to the N of ONE.  Heavy series of die scratches throughout the oak leaves and branch.  NNW die scratch from the PL of PLURIBUS toward the olive and olive leaf.  NNE die scratch from the lower right side of the E in ONE.

Description:  A strong Class V CCW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the designer’s initials, the date, and IGWT.  A medium spread shows on LIBERTY.  A light spread shows on the bottom edge of the bust.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Series of light N/S die scratches in front of the forehead.  Series of N/S die scratches on the back of the nose.  Die clash at the bridge of the nose.  Light die clash at the upper area of the throat.  Reverse:  Series of heavy NNE/SSW die scratches between the upper right-hand side of the olive leaves and the upper band of the torch holder.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  Die scratch north from the upper right side of the R in TRUST.  Numerous die scratches surrounding the O in GOD.  NE/SW die scratch in front of the eye.  Die scratch SSE from right center of the vertical bar of the second T in TRUST.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety shows the doubling from the reverse doubled working hub identified as WWHR-001.  Die gouge between the lower area of the I and T of UNITED.  Curving, mostly E/W die scratches on the lower olive.

Description:  A Class V CCW spread shows on LIBERTY, IGWT, the date, and the designer's initials from a pivot at 2:00.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Two die gouges at the left side junction (ell) of the T in LIBERTY.  NW/SE die scratches on the upper left side and the upper center of the ear.  Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers still present but weak.  Details of the doubling are reduced due to abrasion.  Reverse Stage A: WNW/ESE die scratches through the D of dime.  Reverse Stage B: Scratches through the D in DIME reduced to a single scratch centered inside the D.

Description:  A Class V CW spread shows on LIBERTY, the designer's initials, the date and weak on WE TRUST from a pivot at 12:00.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Die scratches SW from the brow to the B in LIBERTY.  Die scratches SW from the eye.  Obverse Stage B: Die scratches from the brow are weak and abraded away to the B in LIBERTY.  Scratches from the eye are weaker but present.  Light die crack on the upper rear of the head.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch ENE from the left inner side of the M in dime through the center.  Die scratch from the lower right side of the E in AMERICA through the R and to the rim.  Die scratch slightly below center from the last A in AMERICA running east through the dot.  Die chip between the right side oak leaves.  Reverse Stage B:  Stage A markers slightly weaker but still present.

Description:  A close spread on LIBERTY and the eyelid.  A very minor spread at IGWT, designer's initials, hair, top and back of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  Die clash at upper nose. Die chip just below the bust north of the 6 in the date.  NE die scratch from about center of the T, through the Y to the right upper fork of the Y of LIBERTY.  X shaped die scratch, with a curving SE extension, in the field west of the chin.  NNE/SSW die scratches near the rim below the 4 and 6 in the date.  Obverse Stage B: Faint trace of Stage A markers remain.  Reverse Stage A: Series of SE die scratches from the LU of PLURIBUS in the field ending in the area of the stem.  Heavy die scratch from the R of AMERICA to the second lower leaf.  Series of SE die scratches from the last A in AMERICA to the M in UNUM.  Heavy NW/SE die scratches between the RIC in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B; Weaker Stage A markers.  New die scratch from S of PLURIBUS to and between upper IM of DIME.

Reverse: Strong E/W die scratches through the bottom of the IM in DIME. N/S die scratches around the right dot. NW/SE die scratches through and above the B in PLURBIUS. Comments:  Slight differences in the appearance of the doubling may be seen on the working dies.  A number of factors can contribute to these differences including wear to the working hub, wear to the working die, abrading the working die, and wear to the coins.














1946 10¢ WDDR-001

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the letters around the rim, dots, M of UNUM and the upper oak leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratch north from the lower ending of the J in the designer's initials.  A second die scratch N/S in the field to the left of the J in the designer's initials.  Reverse: Two NW/SE die scratches centered inside the D of DIME.  Die scratch south centered on the underside of the lower horizontal bar of the F in OF.

1946 10¢ WDDR-002           "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at 5:00 shows on UNITED STATES, the upper olive stem and leaves, the flames at the top of the torch, and the E PLU of EPU.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  SW die scratch from the forehead toward the nose.  Die scratch, south and curving from the underside of the left horizontal bar of the 1st T in TRUST.  NW/SE die scratch west of the lower lip.  SSE die scratch from the bottom of the nose.  Reverse:  Die scratches SW from each leg of the M of UNUM to the upper E of DIME.  Die scratches from the right dot SW to the lower E of DIME.  Gouges west from both upper legs of the M in AMERICA.

Description:  A very close Class II spread towards the center shows on DIME and UNUM.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Type I.  Two die scratches SW from the outside center of the nose.  Die scratch west from between the lips.  Die scratch SW from the hairline and forehead.  Reverse:  Die gouge left of the oak stem.

1946 10¢ WDDR-004          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class IV spread to the north shows on the bottom of the torch, the flame, as well as on the left and right branches, the stems, and the leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Type I.  Two NW die scratches from the nose forming an upside down V and then becoming a single die scratch.  Series of NE die scratches into the field from the upper back of the neck.  Reverse:  Two die gouges NW from the upper torch base.  Three die scratches, one NNE and two NE through upper R of AMERICA.  Series of die scratches between D and M of DIME going through the I.  Heavy vertical die scratch between the D and I of DIME.

1946 10¢ WDDR-005          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 4:00 shows on USA, the left side of the flame, and the left leaves, EPU, ONE DIME and the right leaves.  Tripling shows on the lower AMER of AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Type I.  The obverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDO-013.  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the designer's initials and the Y of LIBERTY.  Die gouge (dot) east of the head on the temple.  Small die gouges and light scratches on the left side of all the letters of LIBERTY.  Die scratch NW from the upper right of the S of TRUST.  Short NW die scratches from the left side of IN.  Long N/S die scratch west of the forehead.  Light scratches below the 4 of the date.  Obverse Stage B:  Die scratch from the rim at 1:30 WSW to the back of the head.  Reverse Stage A:  Three die scratches NW from the upper acorn into the leaf.  Series of die scratches west of the lower olive running WNW/ESE.  Light die scratches from the A of STATES running SE through the upper flame.  Reverse Stage B:  Heavy die crack from the rim, south through the right vertical bar of the U of UNITED into the left lower olive leaf.  Die crack from the rim south by SW through the first T of STATES, through the top olive leaf to the upper right hand olive leaf.  Die crack SW from the oak stem through the left vertical bar of the M of DIME.  Die crack from the rim, NNW through the I of DIME to the right side of the torch base.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on ONE DIME, the E PLUR of EPU, and UNITED.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Type I.  The obverse of this stage is 1946-10¢ WDDO-015B.  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the bust, the lower nose, nostril, IGWT, and LIBERTY.  N/S die scratch on the ear NE of the earlobe.  Die gouge at the upper chin area.  Series of E/W die scratches above the point of the bust and above TRUST.  Obverse Stage B: The obverse of this stage is 1946-10¢ WDDO-015C.  Three N/S die scratches in the field west of the upper lip.  N/S die scratch connecting the upper nose and the brow.  Series of NNE/SSW die scratches in the BERTY area of LIBERTY.  Weaker stage A markers.  Reverse Stage A: SW/NE die scratches through the US and first U of PLURIBUS UNUM and the acorn.  Die scratch south from the lower right N of UNUM.  N/S die scratch between the top olive leaf and the A of STATES.  Reverse Stage B: N/S Die scratches throughout the olive branch and at both sides of the torch holder.  New scratch from the right lower leg of the N in UNUM curving toward the oak stem.  Stage A scratches are very weak.

Description:  A Class II spread toward the center shows on UNUM, the right side oak leaves, AMERICA, and the ME in DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die clash on the bridge of the nose, on the nose left of the eye and below the nose, which gives a mustache appearance.  Two short NE/SW die scratches above the right leg of the N of IN.  Reverse:  Series of N/S die scratches on the top oak leaf.  Series of short irregular die scratches below the R of AMERICA which touch the upper right oak leaf.  Die clash at the upper left side of the upper olive and running through the lower olive and to the L of PLURIBUS.

DieMarkers:  Obverse: Type I.  The obverse of this stage is 1946-10¢ WDDO-015A.  A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the bust, the lower nose, nostril, IGWT, and LIBERTY.  Long NW die scratch from the rim at 3:00 nearly to the back of the head.  Series of N/S die scratches in the area of the neck and jaw where the crease forms. Die scratch at the upper nose west of the eye.  SE die scratch from the back of the neck near the bust.  Heavy die gouge above the U of TRUST from die polishing.  Strong die scratch, south from the throat nearly to the last T of TRUST.  Reverse:  Die clash from the left side of the olive leaves to the stem.  Die scratches NNE/SSW between the oak stem and the IM of DIME.  Die scratches north from both U's of UNUM extending to both sides of the left acorn.

Die Markers:  Obverse: Type I.  The obverse of this variety was produced from the doubled working hub identified as WWHO-001.  Die scratch south from the bottom of the 4 in the date to the rim.  NE/SW die scratches through the 1 of the date.    Reverse:  N/S die scratch connecting the first U of PLURIBUS to the N of ONE.  NW/SE die scratch at the right lower inside area of the O of ONE.  X-shaped die scratch between the AT of STATES.  Heavy NE/SW die scratches between the ST of STATES.

1946 10¢ WDDR-010

Description:  A close Class V from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on ONE DIME.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Type I.  The obverse of this variety was produced from the doubled working hub identified as WWHO-001.  Lathe marks at the rim and following the contour of the rim below the area of WE TRU of WE TRUST.  Obverse Stage B:  Lathe marks are weaker and can only be seen under WE.  Obverse Stage C:  Very faint lathe marks strongest at the E of WE.  Die gouge below the G of GOD.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch NNE/SSW between the left upper and the upper olive leaves. Die crack beginning at the rim at 5:00 and running NNW through the I of DIME to the torch base.  Reverse Stage B: Die scratch still present. Die crack runs through the torch base.  Reverse Stage C: Stage A markers still present. Die crack is very strong and runs through the base and exits and runs to the B of PLURIBUS.  A second crack intersects at the top of the I and runs to the oak stem.

Description: A very close Class II spread towards the center shows on ONE DIME.

Die Markers: Obverse: Type II. Many N/S die scratches around the head. Many E/W die scratches through IGWT. Crisscrossing die scratches in front of the mouth. Strong die scratch extends north from the 6 in the date. Strong die scratch in the upper opening of the B in LIBERTY parallel with the horizontal bar. Reverse: Die clash remnant through the olive branch. Many NE/SW die scratches throughout the reverse. Strongest scratches through the DIM in DIME and between the CA in AMERICA and the oak leaves.

Description: A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on ONE DIME, EPU, and UNITED.

Die Markers: Obverse: Type II. Crisscrossing die scratches throughout the lower obverse. Strong curving die scratches through GOD, above TRUST, and on the neck. Strong slightly curved die scratch connects the T and Y in LIBERTY. Strong concentric die scratch near the rim at 3:00. Strong WNW/ESE die scratches on the neck below the ear. E/W die scratches on the cheek. N/S die scratches in front of the eye. Large die gouge on the neck near the front tip. Reverse: Light crisscrossing die scratches throughout the reverse. Strong wavy NE/SW die scratch through the bottom right of the E in ONE. Strong E/W die scratches through the bottom of the DIM in DIME. Strong NE/SW die scratches through the TED in UNITED along with a series of short gouges. Long E/W die scratch through the upper oak leaf cluster. Long N/S die scratch from the last U in PLURIBUS to the D in DIME.
