Description: A strong spread toward the rim shows on LIBERTY. A very light spread toward the center, from another hubbing, shows on IGWT and the date. Doubling on the designer's initials is very weak.
Die Markers:Obverse: Die scratch west from the 1 in the date to the bust. E/W die scratch in the field centered between the 1 of the date and the bust. Long die scratch east from the D of GOD to the neck. Die chips in the area of IGWT. Reverse: NE/SW die scratches around the olive branch. The strongest scratches are in the area of the first U and the R of PLURIBUS.
Description: A strong CCW spread shows on the date and the designer’s initials. An LDS coin was examined. An earlier die state may show additional doubling of IN GOD WE TRUST.
Die Markers: Obverse: Two short, parallel die scratches extend north from the upper left side of the earlobe. Reverse: A small die gouge can be found between the upper L and U of PLURIBUS. A short die scratch extends ESE from the lower right torch below the second U of PLURIBUS. A short die gouge protrudes from the left side of the first U in UNUM.
Description: A CW spread
from a pivot at 11:00 shows on ONE DIME.
A spread toward the center shows on DIME, AMERICA, NUM of UNUM, right
outer leaves and the right dot.
Die Markers:Obverse Stage A: Thick, wavy gouges through the front of the hair,
areas of the hair above the ear, lower area of the forehead, top of the ERT and
center of the Y on LIBERTY. It appears
that foreign material was between the hub and the die when the hubbing
occurred. N/S die scratches left of the
profile. Short NE/SW die scratch on the
back of the neck. Obverse Stage B:
Stage A gouges still present. Scratches
in front of the profile weak. Scratch at
the neck still strong. Obverse Stage
C: Previous gouges still present.
Scratches at the profile nearly gone.
Scratch on the neck still strong.
Reverse Stage A: Curling die scratches running in a west direction
left of the flame. Curling die scratches
in a NNE/SSW direction right of the lower area of the flame. Curling die scratches in a N/S direction
between the right upper and lower oak leaves.
Die scratch NNE from the right upper side of the N in UNUM to the right
lower oak leaves. NNW/SSE die scratches
through the upper leaf of the left olive leaves. Die scratches NW from the center olive leaf
on the left hand side. Reverse Stage
B: Scratches left of the flame abraded away. Scratches right of the flame greatly
reduced. All other stage A scratches are
weaker. Doubling on AMERICA is weak and
shows mostly on the last A. Reverse
Stage C: All previous die scratches abraded away. Doubling on AMERICA nearly gone. Light N/S die scratches left of the flame and
the torch holder. Abrasion marks above
and below the lower olive. Two die
scratch NE from the M in UNUM to the last A in AMERICA. Die scratches NW from the N and second U of
UNUM. Die scratches SE below UNUM.
