1939 25¢ WDDO-001

Description: A close CW spread from a pivot at 12:00 shows on IGWT, the date, and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  E/W die crack across the top of the head. Thin E/W die crack across the ribbon. NW/SE die scratches through IGWT. Many crisscrossing die scratched through the LIBE of LIBERTY. Two nearly parallel die scratches extend ESE from the lower right B of LIBERTY. A die scratch runs east from the top of the B in LIBERTY. Short die scratches extend SE from the nose. Reverse: Die crack runs from the upper S in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle’s left wing. E/W die crack through the O in OF. Die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing. Many E/W die scratches between QUARTER DOLLAR and the stems of the branches. Die scratch extends E from the last A in AMERICA.

1939 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A spread to the north shows on IGWT.Die Markers:  Obverse:  A heavy die gouge runs WNW from the top right of the Y in LIBERTY.  A heavy die gouge runs NW from the top left of the Y in LIBERTY to the rim.  A die scratch runs ENE from the lower right one in the date.  Reverse:  A die crack runs through the upper IBUS in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle’s left wing.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

1939 25¢ WDDO-003          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A spread to the SE shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SE from the upper right of the first 9.  A die scratch runs parallel to the rim above the letters in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs NE from the upper right side of the arrow feathers.

1939 25¢ WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CW spread shows on the date, IGWT, LIBERTY, the queue, and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs east from the lower E to the R in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs WNW from the top left of the T in LIBERTY to the rim.  A die scratch runs WNW/ESE between the bottoms of the R and T in LIBERTY.  A W/E die crack runs across the top of the forehead into the hair.  A short die crack can be found in the hair just above the forehead.  Reverse:  A die crack runs east through the upper RIBUS in PLURIBUS and down the eagle’s left wing to the lower right of the second A in AMERICA.  A die crack runs from the E in EPU down through the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack across the lower leaves and branches.  A short die crack runs east from the back of the eagle’s head.

1939 25¢ WDDO-005

Description:  A close spread to the north shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs west from the upper left of the 3 in the date.  A die scratch runs ESE from the lower right of the vertical bar of the L in LIBERTY to the right tip of the L.  A die scratch runs SE from the lower right of the B in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs through the upper TAT in STATES.  A die scratch runs from the lower S in PLURIBUS to the eagle’s upper left wing.  Die cracks run down both wings.

1939 25¢ WDDO-006

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT and the upper right 1 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge runs NNW from the upper I of IN.  Several die scratches run SSW from the underside of the chin towards the E in WE.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Two parallel die scratches run ESE from the lower T to the E in UNITED.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge can be found to the right of the lower 3.  A short die gouge runs west from the upper second 9.  A die scratch runs ESE from the right side of the R in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs SSE from the center of the R in TRUST.  Reverse:  None noted.

1939 25¢ WDDO-008

Description:  A close clockwise spread from a pivot at 2:00 shows on IN GOD WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two nearly parallel die scratches extend southwest from the lower left B of LIBERTY.  A die crack runs north from the top of the I of IN.  A short die scratch extends southeast from the bottom right side of the 1st T in TRUST.  A small die gouge can be found between the W and E of WE.  Two die gouges can be found above the top left side of the E in WE.  Two short, parallel die scratches run northwest to southeast to the right of the E in WE.  Reverse:  A short die gouge can be found to the left of the center of the U in UNITED.  Circular die scratches can be found throughout the eagle.
