1941 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 7:00 shows on LIBERTY and slightly on the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch runs SSW from the lower left of the B in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs WSW/ENE through the hair at the top of the head.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

1941 25¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY, the date, IGWT and on the queue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs E/W across the base of the bust and into the field.  Reverse:  A die gouge runs west from the upper E in UNITED.  A light die crack runs through the lower UN of UNUM.  A light die crack runs WSW from the eagle’s beak.

Description:
  A spread towards the rim shows on the 41 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs E/W across the base of the bust.  A die gouge can be found just to the left of the lower ribbon.  Reverse:  None noted.

1941 25¢ WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A spread towards the north shows on IGWT decreasing in spread from left to right.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found to the left of the first T in TRUST.  A die crack runs E/W across the base of the bust.  A die crack runs east across the upper forehead and then into the hair.  Reverse:  A die crack runs east from the back of the eagle’s head to the left wing.

1941 25¢ WDDO-005          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A very strong Class I CCW spread shows on IGWT, the date, LIBERTY, and the lower ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs E/W across the base of the bust.  A die crack runs east through the hair above the forehead and across the top of the head.  Reverse:  A die crack can be found on the eagle’s upper right wing.  A die crack runs east across the eagle’s lower head.

1941 25¢ WDDO-006

Description:  A very close spread to the north shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SSW from the tip of the nose.  Parallel die scratches run SW from the left side of the I in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the R in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die crack runs ENE from the eagle’s head to the eagle’s upper right wing.  A die scratch runs west from the upper first S in STATES.

1941 25¢ WDDO-007          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A very strong spread to the north shows on IGWT and the underside of the nose.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs east through the upper forehead and into the upper hair.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  A die scratch connects the centers of the 9 and 4 in the date.  Reverse:  A die crack runs through the BUS in PLURIBUS to the eagle’s upper left wing.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing to the Q in QUARTER.

1941 25¢ WDDO-008

Description:  A CW spread shows on IGWT and slightly on the date and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the base of the bust and into the queue.  A die crack runs across the top of the head.  Die scratches run SW/NE and N/S just to the left of the lower neck.  Reverse:   A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing to the leave above the Q in QUARTER.

1941 25¢ WDDO-009          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong die scratch runs east from the top of the E in LIBERTY.  A short die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  Reverse:  An irregular die gouge runs NNW from the arrow tips to the eagle’s left wing.  A die scratch runs west from the upper left of the T in QUARTER.

1941 25¢ WWHR-001          “Best Of” Variety          Doubled Working Hub

Description:  A strong Class IV spread to the north shows on the eagle’s beak, the underside of the arrow shafts below the eagle’s talons, the underside of the central area of the wreath, and the leave to the right of the bottom of the right wing.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Will vary on the different working dies.  Reverse:  Will vary on the different working dies.

Comments:  Despite the fact that the doubling is from a doubled working hub, the strength of the doubling still makes it a desirable variety for doubled die collectors and thus the “Best Of” label.  CONECA has not yet branded it as a doubled working hub and lists the various dies that were affected as unique varieties all with their own working die number based on the working die markers.  CONECA has identified at least 15 working dies displaying the working hub doubling.










1941 25¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on QUARTER DOLLAR and the lower leaves and branches.  It also shows all of the doubling characteristics of WWHR-001.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the base of the bust into the lower queue.  A die scratch runs NE from the lower right L in LIBERTY to the I.  A die crack runs east through the upper forehead and into the hair.  A die crack runs east through the hair above the forehead and the hair at the top of the head.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing and into the field above the Q in QUARTER.  A die crack runs east from the S in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle’s left wing.  A die crack runs down the left wing.  A die crack runs east from the back of the eagle’s head.

Description:  Extreme Class VI extra thickness shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, USA, EPU, the outer edges of the wings, the eagle’s head, and the lower leaves and branches.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge runs SW from the top of the B in LIBERTY into the upper loop of the B.  Reverse:  A short die scratch runs east from just below the center of the first S in STATES.
