1943-D 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY and very slightly on the 3 in the date and the TR in TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the 9 in the date.  A short die gouge runs SE from the bottom right of the G in GOD to the top right of the R in TRUST.  Reverse:  Short die gouges run east from the lower R and the lower T in QUARTER.  A die scratch runs through the center of the RTE in QUARTER.  A strong die scratch runs through the lower ER of QUARTER and into the lower D in DOLLAR.

1943-D 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A very close CW spread from a pivot at about 1:00 shows on IGWT, the date, and the lower ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW/NE to the left of the upper R in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  NW/SE die scratches run through the LL in DOLLAR.

1943-D 25¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A very close CCW spread from a pivot at about 9:00 shows on the RTY in LIBERTY, the 43 in the date, and the lower ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs E/W through the hair above the forehead and through the hair at the top of the head and then out to the T in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs from the S in PLURIBUS to the eagle’s left wing and then down the left wing.

1943-D 25¢ WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A major CCW spread shows on the ear, the hair curls around the ear and above the queue, the chin, and the lips.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the lower I in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust through the lower queue on the right and into the field to the left.  A die crack runs E/W through the hair above the forehead.  Reverse:  A die crack runs through the RIBUS of PLURIBUS and down the upper part of the eagle’s left wing.  A die crack runs down the outer part of the eagle’s right wing.

1943-D 25¢ WDDO-005          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at 9:00 shows on LIBERTY, the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the ribbon, and slightly on WE.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Curving die scratches can be found below the E in WE.  A short die gouge runs SW from the bottom left corner of the D in UNITED.  Reverse:  Two parallel die scratches run NE from the lower part of the branch end to the right of the mint mark.  A die scratch runs NE from the lower part of the branch end to the left of the mint mark.
