1946 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class I CW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW from the underside of the nose.  Two short strong die scratches run SW from the top left side of the queue.  Reverse:  A die crack runs from the N in UNITED through the eagle’s right wing to the upper U in QUARTER.

1946 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A CW from a pivot at about 5:00 shows on IGWT and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Parallel die scratches run west from the lower Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Die cracks run down both wings.  A die crack runs through the RIBUS in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.

1946 25¢ WDDO-003          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  Extremely strong extra thickness shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the date, the designer’s initials, and the lower queue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NW from the rim between the 1 and the 9 in the date.  A short die scratch runs west from the top of the E in LIBERTY.  A NW/SE die scratch can be found in the field to the left of the base of the bust.  Two parallel die scratches run SW from the lower left of the first T in TRUST.  Reverse:  The reverse is a minor doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 25¢ WDDR-002.  A CW spread from a pivot at about 6:oo shows on USA.

1946 25¢ WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CCW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the date, the designer’s initials, and the lower queue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong die scratch runs west from the upper L in LIBERTY.  A short die scratch runs west from the top of the E in LIBERTY.  Two short die gouges run west from the lower R in LIBERTY.  Two parallel die scratches run SW from the lower left of the first T in TRUST.  Two short die crack runs west from the left T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  Die gouges ca be found between the lower D in UNITED  and the first S in STATES.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s left wing.  A die crack runs from the US in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.

Description:  A strong CCW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the date, the designer’s initials, and the lower queue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A scratch runs ESE from under the vertical bar of the L in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs NE from the lower right of the B in LIBERTY.  A short heavy die scratch runs SSE from the upper right R in TRUST.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  Die gouges can be found between the lower D in UNITED and the first S in STATES.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s left wing.  A die crack runs from the US in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.

1946 25¢ WDDO-006

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on IGWT, the date, the designer’s initials, and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two short die gouges extend SE from the underside of the chin.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Two die scratches run WSW from the left side of the U in UNITED.  Several nearly horizontal die scratches run through the RTER of QUARTER.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs from the IBUS in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing.

Description:  A very close spread towards the center shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and very slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong die dent can be found to the right of the upper I in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs parallel to the rim below the 46 in the date.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT, the date, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the right of the bottom of the B in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs E/W through the lower R in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A horizontal die scratch can be found just above the IB in PLURIBUS.

Description:  What looks like centralized offset hub doubling shows as a spread to the west on the eagle’s talons and the wreath details below the arrows.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Light die scratches run N/S through IN GOD.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs west from the upper U in UNITED.  A circular die scratch pattern runs throughout the eagle.
