1953-D 25¢ WMHO-001          Master Hub Doubling

Description:  A moderate CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Will vary on each working die.  Reverse:  Will vary on each working die.

Submitted By:  John A. Wexler

Cross References:  CONECA: SD-4-O-V

Comments:  Because the master hub is designed to be used over a period of several years, this one was used during the period from 1951 through 1954.  Consequently all Washington quarters during that period of time will show this doubling.  Differences in the appearance of the doubling will be due to wear on the working hubs, wear on the working dies, and wear on the coins themselves.

1953-D 25¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong Class I CCW spread shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, USA, EPU, and the lower wreath.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two short die gouges run SE from the upper left of the three in the date.  Reverse:  A short deep die gouge runs SW/NE in the center of the eagle’s right wing well east of the U in UNITED.
