1956 25¢ Pr WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  Tripling shows on IGWT, the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the ribbon, and BERTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Short vertical die scratches run through the bow in the ribbon.  Reverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found on the lower right wing tip.

1956 25¢ Pr WDDO-002

Description:  Extra thickness spread towards the center shows on IGWT, the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the ribbon, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A short die gouge can be found on the eagle’s left wing south of the I in AMERICA.  Several die scratches can be found on the upper left wing below the M in AMERICA.

1956 25¢ Pr WDDO-003

Description:  A close CCW spread (tripled) shows on LIBERTY, the 56 in the date, and the lower queue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong die gouge can be found on the upper I in LIBERTY.  A short die gouge runs NW/SE on the center left of the B in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found on the upper left N of IN.  Reverse:  A curving die scratch can be found on the upper right wing.

1956 25¢ Pr WDDO-004

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the upper 6 in the date, and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A die gouge (dot) can be found on the upper right wing.  A vertical die scratch can be found on the lower right wing above the upper most leave.  A short horizontal die scratch can be found near the top of the left wing.

1956 25¢ Pr WDDO-005          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at 6:00 shows on LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs from SW to NE at the top of the eagle’s right wing.  A die crack runs along the edge of the right wing below UNITED.  A circle (die scratch?) can be found on the eagles’ left wing SE of the 2nd A in AMERICA.

1956 25¢ WDDR-002

Description:  Extra thickness shows on the letters of USA, the letters of QUARTER DOLLAR, and the lower leaves and branches.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found between the lower R and T of LIBERTY.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Very late die state examined.  A die crack or die gouge runs southeast from the bottom right R of QUARTER to the rim.
