Description:  Light extra thickness shows on LIBERTY, IGWT, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die scratch extends WSW from the lower left side of the I in LIBERTY.  A short die crack can be found on the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A short die scratch runs ESE from the lower right of the F in OF.

1956-D 25¢ WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  Extreme extra thickness and some separation lines shows on the letters of QUARTER DOLLAR, USA, EPU, the lower leaves and branches, and the lower wings of the eagles.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs from the lower right 1 northeast to the 9.  Two parallel die scratches extend ENE from the bottom of the lower 6.  A die scratch extends southwest from the bottom center of the L in LIBERTY.  A die scratch curves northeast from the center of the B to the top of the E in LIBERTY.  A die scratch curves southwest from the bottom left side of the E in LIBERTY.  A very heavy die scratch runs from the top of the E to the top of the R in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs east across the top of the forehead into the hair.  Reverse:  A short, vertical die scratch can be found to the left of the T in QUARTER.  A short die scratch extends northeast from the lower right vertical bar of the 2nd L in DOLLAR.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the tip of the eagle’s left wing.  Vertical die scratches ca be found above the right end of the arrow feathers.  A die crack runs down the edge of the eagle’s right wing.
