Description: Doubling shows on the underside of Washington’s earlobe.
Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found near the rim above the 1st S in STATES. A small die gouge can be found below and between the bottoms of the A and M of AMERICA. A small die gouge (dot) can be found inside the lower O in OF. A die chip can be found on the upper cheek to the right of the nose. A die crack extends northeast from the front of the eyebrow. A die crack runs through the upper designer’s initials. Reverse: Small die gouges can be found below the D of LAND.

Description: Doubling shows on the underside of Washington’s earlobe.
Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found southwest of the mint mark near the queue. A small die gouge can be found just to the left of the bottom of the ribbon. A die chip can be found at the top of the designer’s initials. Die chips can be found to the right of the bottom of the ribbon. Reverse: A die chip can be found between the bottoms of the E and A of GREAT.

Description: Extra lines can be found in the hair to the left of the bear’s nose and above the fish.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die chip can be found in the upper left W of WE. A pre-die chip indentation can be found at the bottom of the queue. A heavy die crack runs along the base of the bust. A pre-die break depression can be found below the bust above the T of QUARTER. A pre-die break depression and small die break can be found below the designer’s initials. Obverse Stage B: Die chips can now be found in the upper right W of WE and the upper right N of IN. The depression at the bottom of the queue is now a large die chip. Reverse Stage A: A die chip can be found in the lower 5 of 1959. A die chip can be found between the bottoms of the E and A in GREAT. Die chips can be found between the bottoms of the L and A and the bottoms of the A and N of LAND. A small die chip can be found in the upper right N of LAND. Die chips can be found between the bottom three claws of the bear. Reverse Stage B: Die chips can be found on the R of GREAT and in the lower left N of LAND.
