1964 25¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on IGWT while a spread towards the rim shows on the 9 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found below the left side of the L in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  A die crack runs E/W through the upper forehead and into the hair at the top of the head.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

1964 25¢ Pr WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on IGWT, the date, the designer’s initials, the lower queue, and the L in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch can be found on the left side of the horizontal crossbar of the 4 in the date.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs ESE from the lower right R in QUARTER to the rim.

1964 25¢ Pr WDDO-005

Description:  A close spread towards the rim shows on LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two short vertical die gouges can be found between the upper I and B in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1964 25¢ Pr WDDR-006.  A spread towards the center shows on STATES OF AMERICA, EPU, the eagle’s left wing, the branch ends, the lower right leaves, and slightly on QUARTER DOLLAR.  A die gouge can be found between the bottom of the second S in STATES and the O in OF.

Description:  Notches show on the upper left letters of LIBERTY.  Slight doubling shows on the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found above the left side of the first T in TRUST.  Die scratches run NW/SE to the left of the first T in TRUST.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust into the lower queue.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A strong CW spread shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, UNITED, and the wreath.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  Obverse Stage B:  The die crack across the base of the bust extends into the fields on both sides of the bust.  Reverse Stage A:  A short die gouge runs west from the upper left of the second S in STATES.  Reverse Stage B:  A strong die scratch runs NE from the center right side of the D in UNITED.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A strong Class I CCW spread shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, USA, EPU, the eagle’s wings, two talons, and the wreath.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue turning to the rim at 7:00 and 4:30.  Reverse:  Two parallel die scratches run NE from the upper right of the R in QUARTER.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A strong CCW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, UNITED, the STA of STATES, AMERICA, the talons, and the wreath.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs north from the top of the G in GOD.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and into the lower queue.  Reverse:  A die crack runs SE from the back of the eagle’s head ending in a small die chip.  A die crack can be found on the eagle’s right wing below the UN of UNITED.
