1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-001

Description:  A very strong Class VI spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and IN GOD.  Class II separation shows on WE TRUST and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found on the lower left of the E in WE.  A die scratch runs across the lower front of the bust.  A die scratch runs across the upper Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDR-001.  A strong Class VI spread towards the center shows on USA, HALF DOLLAR, EPU, and the eagle.  A die chip can be found between the upper P and L of PLURIBUS.  Die chips can be found between the eagle’s lower right wing feathers.

1956 50¢ WDDO-002

Description:  Extra thickness on LIBERTY, IGWT and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Short diagonal die scratch from the lower hair to the back of the neck.  Die dot to the left center of the first T in TRUST.  Obverse Stage B:  Die chips (filled) between the lower and center bars and the upper bar to the rim of the E in LIBERTY.  The Stage A die scratch, hair to neck, is polished away.  Obverse Stage C:  Die chips (filled) between all bars and the upper bar to the rim of the E in LIBERTY.  Reverse Stage A:  None noted.  Reverse Stage B:  A die scratch curves NE from the bottom right corner of the bell.  Reverse Stage C:  Same as Stage B.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1956 50¢ Pr WDDO-001.  A very strong Class VI spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and IN GOD.  Class II separation shows on WE TRUST and the date.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found on the lower left of the E in WE.  A die scratch runs across the lower front of the bust.  A die scratch runs across the upper Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die chip can be found between the upper P and L of PLURIBUS.  Die chips can be found between the eagle’s lower right wing feathers.
