1949 1¢ WUFO-001

Description:  What looks like it might be the upper part of an S mint mark protrudes from the diagonal bar of the 4 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW from the upper one in the date to the vest.  Reverse:  A short die scratch runs west from the upper O in OF.

Comments:  Some have suggested that the top of an S mint mark is protruding from the upper left of the four in the date.  Others have dismissed it as a die gouge.  I am doubtful of the die gouge theory as the anomaly has too much curvature and does not bear a resemblance to any die gouges that I have seenFor now it will remain with the Unidentified Fascinating Oddities.
