1946-S 10¢ WRPM-001

Description: S/S/S/S Northwest, East, & Northeast

Die Markers: Obverse: Type I. Three N/S die scratches above the 9 of the date. N/S die scratch below the 1 of the date. Two N/S die scratches behind the upper right side of the ear. Reverse: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also a doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-007. A strong spread toward the center shows on AMERICA, UNUM, DIME, and elements of the oak branch. A lesser spread also shows toward the center on ONE, UNITED STATES OF and E PLURIBUS. One of the hubbings was rotated CW on all the letters around the rim causing some of the letters to show tripling. N/S die scratch through the first U of PLURIBUS. Die scratch NE from the right center of the D in UNITED to the rim. Die scratches NE from the E of ONE to the torch base. WNW/WSE die scratches through the NUM of UNUM.

1946-S 10¢ WRPM-002

Description: S/S Southeast

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. The obverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDO-005. A very close spread towards the center shows on the Y of LIBERTY and WE TRUST. Weak wavy die gouge through the upper horizontal bar of the E in LIBERTY. Arching NE/SW die gouge on the Y of LIBERTY near the fork. Wavy E/W die gouge through the center of the B in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers still present. Die scratch south from the back of the head. Short die scratches north from the upper right of the head. Die clash on the bridge of the nose. Rim cud starting above the LI of LIBERTY. Weaker doubling. Obverse Stage C: Die scratch behind the head weaker. Die clash abraded away. Stronger rim cud above the L and I of LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-001. A very strong spread to the west shows on EPU (stronger left), UNITED STATES, the torch flame, elements of the olive branch. Weaker doubling shows on the torch holder, ONE, and elements of the oak branch. N/S die scratch through the right side dot. ENE/WSW die scratch through the bottom of the last A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: Stage A marker abraded away. N/S scratches between the left lower olive leaf and the L of PLURIBUS. Die scratches below the first U in PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage C: Secondary mintmark only shows on the bottom. Die chip above the B of PLURIBUS. First U of PLURIBUS abraded away.

1946-S 10¢ WRPM-003

Description: S/S Southeast

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: First Obverse, Type I. The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDO-011. NE/SW die scratches in the field west of the brow and forehead area. Obverse Stage B: Two very light, S by SE die scratches from the bottom of the nose toward the lips. Diagonal die scratches between the lower W and E of WE. Obverse Stage C: Stage marker weak to gone. Die chip (dot) above the left side upper R of TRUST. NE/SW die gouge at the bust above the date. Obverse Stage D: Second Obverse, Type I. Doubled die no longer present because of an obverse die change. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark. Die gouge in the field west of the lower area of the flame. Die scratch running SW from the bottom of the first U in PLURIBUS. Die scratch beginning at the upper right top of the N of UNUM and running SW through the N and the branch. Reverse Stage B: Weaker Stage A markers. Die gouge at the bottom of the 2 nd U of UNUM. Reverse Stage C: Stage A markers weak to gone. Die crack at the upper M of AMERICA to the rim. Reverse Stage D: Stronger die crack at rim.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. NE/SW die scratches between the forehead and the TY of LIBERTY. Short NE/SW die scratch at the top of the nose, west of the eyelid. Obverse Stage B: Die chip on the nose just above the nostril. Scratches gone between forehead and the T of LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark, WWHR-001 Series of NE die scratches from the right-hand upper olive leaf to the flame. Reverse Stage B: Weaker die scratches NE from the right-hand upper olive leaf to the flame.

Very short die scratches east from the lower right side of the torch base. Reverse Stage B: None noted.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. The obverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDO-004. Medium spread toward the center shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the top of the head, weak on the forehead, weak on the date, weak on the lower bust, weak on the back of the neck and weak the eyelid. A short die scratch north from the left upper-side of the second T of TRUST. Medium die chip on right center of the ear. Strongest doubling appears on this stage. Obverse Stage B: NNW/SSE die scratches to the left of the 9 in the date. Obverse Stage C: Stage markers are gone. Three slightly diagonal die scratches south of the L in LIBERTY. Very short die gouge east of the upper loop of the B in LIBERTY. Doubling on the neck and bust is abraded away. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-005. A close spread toward the center shows best on UNITED and ONE. NW/SE die scratch through the right center of the E in DIME. Series of N/S, slightly slanted, die scratches and a die chip above the second U of PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: Weaker Stage A markers. Small die gouge east from the center of the E in STATES. Reverse Stage C: Stage A markers are gone except one very faint scratch from the left top of the second U of PLURIBUS. Die chips on the left-hand side lower olive leaves.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDO-002. A Class II spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and the profile. Strong E/W die scratch through the front of the hair. Two short die scratches south from the upper lip. Die scratch north from the right side horizontal bar of the 4 in the date. Small dies scratch NNW inside the lower circle of the 9 in the date. NE/SW die gouge on the lower left side of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers are weaker and the scratch from the 4 is gone. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mint mark. The reverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-003. A close Class II spread towards the center shows on AMERICA, ONE DIME and UNUM. Series of N/S die scratches through the right-hand leaves, on the right side, heaviest from the lower leaf through the M of UNUM and to the E of DIME. Series of N/S die scratches through the left side leaves. Curving die scratch through the lower N of UNUM. Die scratch south from the left underside of the horizontal bar of the second T in STATES. Die gouge (dot) between the lower ST of STATES. Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers are gone except the scratch at the N of UNUM.

Die Markers: Obverse: Type I. Small gouge from the bust directly above the J in the designer's initials. Short SW die scratch from the eyelid. SW die scratch from the left side of the ear near the ending of the hair. Reverse: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also a doubled die variety listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-006. A close spread toward the center shows on ONE DIME, UNUM, AMERICA, and weak on the right side oak leaves. WNW/ENE die scratch above the RIB of PLURIBUS. Series of NE/SW die scratches through the upper right hand olive leaves.

Description: S/S West

Die Markers: Obverse: None recorded. Reverse: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also a doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-011. A strong spread toward the center and slightly CCW from a pivot point near the rim at 3:00 on USA, EPU, the flame, the outer leaves of the right branch the left branch and leaves. ONE DIME and OF AMERICA looks like Class VI rather than Class II. Strong die crack north from the left side of the flame through the E in STATES and to the rim. Strong die clash marks through the left leaves of the olive branch.
