Description: Exhibits strong doubling on IGWT, LIBERTY, and date with Class I rotation. Stronger on IGWT than ERTY of LIBERTY. Doubling is also visible on the upper portions of the hair. Rotation point between center and K3 at rim.

Die Markers: Obverse: A die scratch under the jaw on the neck running nearly parallel to the jaw. Reverse: None noted.

Description: Exhibits moderate Class II doubling on IGWT, date, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers: Obverse: Faint die scratch extending NE from the lower right portion of the I in IN. Faint die scratch parallel and just west of the 2nd 7 of the date. Die gouge on the middle right horizontal bar of the letter B of LIBERTY. Reverse: None noted.

Description: Exhibits close Class II doubling on IGWT, date, and LIBER of LIBERTY.

Die Markers: Obverse: Small and nearly horizontal die crack at the back middle ear. Faint but distinct die scratch upper right of the eye running NE through the eyebrow. Die scratch extending SSE through the lower left vertical leg of the R in LIBERTY to the edge of the top of the hair. Reverse: None noted.

Description: Exhibits moderate Class II doubling on IGWT, date, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers: Obverse: Long extending die scratch running parallel on the base of the bust over the mintmark to the designer's initials. Faint die scratch on the rim right of the Y in LIBERTY. Prominent die gouge just west of the horizontal bar of the T in LIBERTY. Reverse: None noted.

Description: Moderate Class II doubling toward the rim most evident on lower portions of IGWT. Slight doubling on serif of 1 and loop of 9. Stronger doubling seen on horizontal bars of 77.

1977-S $1 Pr WDDO-010

Description: Class II doubling toward the rim, most evident on the lower serifs of IN. Doubling is seen on the west edges of the GO in GOD. Most easily detected doubling is toward the rim on TRU of TRUST with the horizontal bar of T and left side of vertical bars of RUS. Minimal separation on horizontal bars of 77 in date, however noticeable line on outer lower loop of 9.

Die Markers: Obverse: Type 1 S mintmark with heavy CW tilt. Reverse: Reverse is WDDR-001, class II doubling toward the rim. Faint die scratch in the field halfway up on the D between the DO of DOLLAR.

Description: A spread towards the center shows on ONE DOLLAR, the designer’s initials, and the craters.  

Die Markers: Obverse: Die markers will vary on the individual working dies affected. Reverse: Die markers will vary on the individual working dies affected.

Comments: Because this was a master hub it was intended to be used over a period of several years.  Working dies with the exact same doubling are known to exist for the years 1974, 1977, and 1978.  Differences in the appearance of the doubling will result from master hub wear, master die wear, working hub wear, working die wear, as well as coin wear.






1977-S $1 Pr WDDR-001

Description: Class II doubling toward the rim, also shoes MDDR. Doubling is seen on top bars of DO of DOLLAR, lower right serif of LL, middle bar of AR, and on leg of R. The A of DOLLAR also shows both lower serifs splitting.

Die Markers: Obverse: Obverse is WDDO-010. Type 1 S mintmark with heavy CW tilt. Reverse: Faint die scratch in the field halfway up on the D between the DO of DOLLAR.
