Comments:  Although this is not a particularly strong doubled die variety, it has proven to be quite popular.  This is most likely due to the fact that it is a doubled die on the first year of issue for the Lincoln cents and the doubling does affect the date.  Also helping to make the variety more popular is the fact that it appeared in both The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die (page 36) published in 1984, and also in The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties.  This variety was first reported many years ago by Randy Miller.
