1951 50¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A Class VI spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found south of the S in JRS.  Two die gouges can be found above and between the D of GOD and the W of WE.  The bottom of the 5 has been re-engraved.  Reverse:  Die pitting can be found to the right of the top of the R in DOLLAR.

1951 50¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Central doubling shows on the left side of the upper bell structure, the left side of the upper bell supports, and along the bottom of the bell.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the vertical bar of the R in LIBERTY.  Two small die gouges can be found in the field to the right of the lower nose.  Reverse:  Two short, parallel die scratches run SSE from the bottom of the 2nd U in UNUM.  Short die scratches run south from the bottom right R and the bottom of the I in PLURIBUS.  A die scratch runs from north to south through the E in EPU.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE above the O in DOLLAR.  Several die scratches run from SW to NE through the lettering on the upper bell.

1951 50¢ WDDR-002

Description:  Doubling spread to the north shows on the bottom of the bell, the bell clapper, and the bottom of the eagle.  A spread to the east shows on the lower left part of the upper bell structure and on the left side of the upper bell supports.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs from north to south through the right side of the R in JRS and then curves to the SE.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE above the eagle’s right wing (viewer’s left).

1951 50¢ WDDR-003

Description:  Central doubling shows on the left side of the upper bell structure, along the bottom of the bell, on the bell clapper, on the eagle’s talons, and on the eagle’s tail feathers.  The right talon is tripled.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the lower I in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Parallel die scratches run NNE from the top of the 2nd U in UNUM through the IB of PLURIBUS and the right dot.  A die gouge can be found NNW of the top of the 1st L in DOLLAR.  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE above the top right side of the bell.

1951 50¢ WDDR-004

Description:  Central doubling shows on the left side of the upper bell structure, the left side of the upper bell supports, the top of the bell supports, the bell clapper, the bottom of the bell, the eagle’s talons, and the eagle’s tail feathers.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A curving die scratch can be found to the left of the top of the 1st 1 in the date.  Circular die scratches run parallel to the rim through the letters of IGWT and LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  The curving de scratch at the 1 in the date is weaker, but still visible.  The circular die scratches can no longer be seen.  Reverse Stage A:  A short but strong die gouge can be found under the left end of the bell yoke.  Two parallel die scratches run SW to NE through the bottom right side of the E to the R in AMERICA.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found below the right side of the E in AMERICA.  Two parallel die scratches run SE from the bottom of the 2nd U in UNUM.  A die clash mark can be found above the right side of the bell.  Reverse Stage B:  The die gouge below the left end of the bell yoke is still visible, but other Stage A markers can no longer be seen.

1951 50¢ Pr WDDR-005          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on the left side of the bell yoke, the left side of the upper bell supports, the upper bell, along the bottom of the bell, on the lettering within the bell, and on the eagle..

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Three parallel die scratches run from SW to NE located NW of the eye.  Die pitting can be found at the bottom of the 9 in the date.  Some die pitting can be found below the back of the eye.  Reverse:  Several die scratches run from SSW to NNE on the lower left side of the bell.  Strange circular die scratches run through the lower part of these die scratches.
