1937-S 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  Strong Class VI extra thickness shows on the date and LIBERTY.  Extra thickness shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs from WNW to ESE through the front fold of hair just above the forehead.  Parallel die scratches run from west to east in the hair below the OD of GOD.  A die gouge protrudes from the rim midway between TRUST and the date.  Obverse Stage B:  The Stage A markers are considerably weaker, but still visible.  A die gouge can be found between the 1 and 9 in the date.  Obverse Stage C:  The Stage A & B markers are no longer visible.  Obverse Stage D:  Same as Stage C.  Reverse Stage A:  A long die gouge from the feeder fingers runs north from the top of the T in CENT to the right of the E in ONE.  A die crack runs through the wheat kernels on the lower right wheat stalk running NNE from the bottom right 2nd kernel to the 6th kernel.  Reverse Stage B:  The strong die gouge to the right of the E in ONE has been replaced by a group of weaker feeder finger scratches running south to north through the E.  A die crack runs from the top right of the left wheat ear to the lower left of the E in EPU.  Reverse Stage C:  New Reverse Die.  A long die gouge from the feeder fingers runs north from the field to the left of the upper C in CENT to the left of the P in PLURIBUS.  Reverse Stage D:  The long die gouge from the feeder fingers is considerably weaker.  A die crack runs through the wheat kernels on the lower right wheat stalk running NNE from the bottom right 3rd kernel to the right of the 6th kernel.

Description:  A doubled eyelid shows well southeast of the primary eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the lower bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs through the lower to mid right wheat grains.

1937-S 1¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, and lightly on the top of the wheat ears.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Staggering E/W die crack in the hair.  Die crack over the designer’s initials.  Obverse Stage B:  Die chip (dot) in the field behind the lower area of the head.  Reverse Stage A:  Light die crack on the lower right side of the right wheat grains.  Die chip (dot) right from the lower area of the second T in STATES.  Reverse Stage B:  Heavier die crack on the right grains.  Die cracks on the upper left side and the lower right side of the left wheat grains.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None recorded.  Reverse:  Feeder finger mark shows NE/SW right of the P in PLURIBUS.  Small diagonal die scratch shows inside the center of the C in CENT.  Die scratch shows SW from the lower left side of the E in STATES.
