1960-D 1¢ WDDO-001 "Best Of" Variety
Description: A Small Date was hubbed over a Large Date. Doubling also shows on the B of LIBERTY and the inside of the G in GOD.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: The mint mark is a widely repunched mint mark showing as a D/D wide to the north. The mint mark is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1960-D 1¢ WRPM-103. Four parallel die scratches run SSE from the bottom of the earlobe. A die scratch runs SE from just to the right of the center of the R in TRUST. Obverse Stage B: A curving die scratch can be found below and between the 1 and 9 in the date extending south to the vest. A die scratch runs SW from the lower right N of IN. Obverse Stage C: Two parallel die scratches run SW from the lower O in GOD. Obverse Stage D: A die chip can be found in the upper 6. Reverse: None noted. Specimens are needed for all stages to determine reverse die markers.
Comments: I need to see high grade specimens of this variety to update the photo file with obverse die marker photos for Stage C and Stage D as well as reverse die marker photos for all stages. I would then be able to upgrade to color photos for those already seen here. If you can help, let me know.

1960-D 1¢ WDDO-002 "Best Of" Variety
Description: A Class I CW spread shows on the letters of IGWT, the LIB of LIBERTY, and slightly on the date.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A short die scratch runs SW from the back of the head behind the ear. A die scratch runs NE from the top of the head almost to the lower left of the W in WE. Obverse Stage B: Numerous die scratches run SSW to NNE in front of and behind the bust. A strong die scratch runs SW from the center of the underside of the chin. Obverse Stage C: A die chip can be found in the lower R of LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: Two small die gouges can be found between the upper I and C of AMERICA. A short die scratch runs SW from under the right end of the Memorial. Reverse Stage B: New reverse die. A die scratch runs SSW to NNE through the left base of the Memorial just to the left of the left post. Reverse Stage C: Same as Stage B.
Description: Strong extra thickness shows on the date.
Die Markers: Obverse: Small Date. A die scratch runs north from the top of the B in LIBERTY. A die scratch running N/S passes through the right side of the R in LIBERTY. Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse. Reverse: A short vertical die gouge can be found to the left of the lower U in UNITED. A die scratch runs SW from the lower left of the C in AMERICA. A die crack runs across the top of the C to the top of the E in CENT. A die chip can be found on the right end of the center bar of the E in ONE.

Die Markers: Obverse: Large Date.A short die gouge protrudes from the right side of the 9. A die scratch extends north from the top of the 1. Parallel die scratches extend NW from the upper left 1 and the upper left 9 in the date. Reverse: A vertical die scratch can be found at the bottom of the 2nd Memorial bay. Two parallel die scratches extend SE from the bottom of the Memorial above the O in ONE.
