1957 1¢ WWHO-001 1957 1¢ WDDO-001 "Best Of" Variety Description: Class VI extra thickness shows on the date, LIBERTY, and IGWT. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die chip can be found in the lower B of LIBERTY. Two parallel die scratches run from NW to SE above the Y in LIBERTY. Numerous die scratches run from SSW to NNE to the right of the bust. A die crack runs along the left side of the base of the bust over the designer’s initials curving out to the rim on the left side of the die crack. Obverse Stage B: Die chips can be found in the upper 9 and 5 in the date. A die crack runs from west to east through the upper forehead. A die chip can be found near the left end of the die crack running across the base of the bust. Reverse Stage A: Numerous die scratches run from north to south through the E of ONE and the T in CENT. Reverse Stage B: A die crack runs SSE from the lower right wheat stalk to the rim at about 4:00. A die chip can be found on the lower T in CENT. Submitted By: John A. 1957 1¢ WDDO-002 "Best Of" Variety Description: A Class II spread towards the center shows on the letters of LIBERTY, the 7 in the date, and the letters of IGWT. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die clash mark extends south from the bottom of the chin to the bowtie. A die scratch joins the upper left and upper right 9 in the date. Obverse Stage B: A die crack runs WSW to ENE through the upper hair. A die crack runs west to east through the forehead. The die clash mark at the throat is now very weak. Reverse Stage A: Short die gouges protrude to the left and right of the lower R in PLURIBUS. Two die scratches run SSW to NNE between the O and N of ONE. A die scratch runs north from the top of the T in CENT. Reverse Stage B: The Stage A die gouges are very weak. The Stage A die scratches are gone. A heavy die crack runs down the lower right T of CENT. A die scratch runs north from the upper left N of ONE to the B in PLURIBUS. The doubling is strongest on the wheat stems. Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 5 in the date. A short, nearly horizontal die gouge can be found north of the B in LIBERTY. Parallel die scratches run SW from the G in GOD. Numerous die scratches run SE from the front of the head. Reverse: A die gouge touches the top of the left wheat ear. A die scratch runs NNE from the upper right N of UNITED to the bottom of the C in CENT. Two parallel die scratches curve from WSW to ENE in the upper C of CENT. Three parallel die scratches run from NNW to SSE to the right of the lower E in ONE. Several die cracks run through the hair and forehead. Reverse: Long X-shaped die scratches can be found to the right of the upper left wheat ear. A die scratch runs north to south between the upper N and E of ONE. Several parallel die scratches run NNW to SSE through the upper left T of CENT.
