1937-D 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A close CW spread from a pivot at 4:00 shows on the LIBE of LIBERTY and the letters of IN GOD.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A short die scratch extends NE from the bowtie.  A short die scratch extends NE from the right side of the 1 in the date.  Small die scratches run N in front of the lips.  A strong die gouge (dot) can be found to the right of the upper Y in LIBERTY.  A die scratch extends ESE from the bottom left of the W in WE.  A short, strong diagonal die scratch can be found north of the R in LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  The Stage A die scratches are no longer visible.  The die gouge to the right of the upper Y is still present.  A thin die scratch extends SSW from the bottom left corner of the E in WE.  A thin die scratch runs SW to NE past the lower right corner of the 1.  A die scratch connects the upper left and lower left 9 in the date.  Reverse Stage A:  A short die scratch extends SW from the left dot.  Two short, parallel die scratches extend SW from the lower left P of PLURIBUS.  A die scratch extends NE from the upper left U of UNITED.  Reverse Stage B:  The obverse die was paired with a new reverse die.  A short die scratch extends ENE from the lower right 2nd U of PLURIBUS.  A die scratch extends SW from the lower left E of ONE.  Two parallel die scratches run NW to SE between the N and T of CENT.

Description:  A close CW spread from a pivot at 3 o’clock shows on LIBERTY.  A close spread toward the center shows on the date.  A doubled eyelid shows to the west of the primary eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Strong die scratch north from the beard and ending east of the lips.  N/S die scratches in the field below the nose and east of the lips.  Strong WNW/ESE die scratch on the back of the forehead just below the hairline.  Circular die scratches centered on the neck.  Reverse:  Die gouge from the right side of the left wheat, left of the U in UNITED.  Diagonal die scratch between the lower area of the N and T in CENT.

1937-D 1¢ WDDR-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  Strong Class VI extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, both wheat ears and stems, and the outer most letters of USA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The mint mark is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as WRPM-001 (D/D North).  Reverse:  A very short die scratch protrudes from the right side of the D in UNITED.
