1996-D 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  An extremely close spread towards the center shows on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Four small die gouges can be found between the lower second nine and the six in the date.  A small die gouge can be found between the second nine and the mint mark.  A die gouge can be found in the field to the right of the lower lip.  Reverse:  None noted.

1996-D 1¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 7:00 shows on IGWT, the hair details at the top of the head, the front hair curls, and slightly on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short vertical die gouge can be found on the upper center of the shoulder.  A short die gouge runs NW from the lower left of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Small die gouges can be found just above the lower left of the Memorial.  This reverse die has been found without the obverse doubled die.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Bar extended from the top of the knee to the top of the foot to the left of the statue on the sixth column.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Possible die gouges (or damage to the coin) are present right of the mint mark.  Die gouges are present left and right of the top of E of WE.  A die gouge is present above S of TRUST.  Reverse:  Light die scratches run from the memorial base SSE through the top of O and N of ONE.  Heavy die chips are present between the upper and lower E of ONE and C of CENT.  Heavy die chips are present under E and N of CENT.  Feeder finger damage is present through the lower memorial base and T of CENT.  Several grouped die gouges are present between and below T and E of UNITED.  A die gouge is present left of the first S of STATES.  A die gouge is present right of the lower second A of AMERICA.

Description:  Bar extended from the middle of the knee to the shin to the right of the statue on the seventh column. 

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge is present left of the mint mark.  A die gouge is present centered below E and R of LIBERTY.  A die gouge is present right of the lower first T of TRUST.  Reverse:  A strong die gouge is present between the lower T and E of UNITED.  A strong die gouge is present between the first A and M of AMERICA.  A die gouge is present under the left upright of R of AMERICA.  A die gouge is present just right of the second dot.  Two die gouges are present right of the lower and upper T of CENT.

Description:  Doubling shows on the left side of the seventh Memorial column to the right of the statue’s upper legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge extends NE from the upper right of the mint mark.  Reverse:  Three small die gouges can be found SE of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-004

Description:  Doubling shows on the right side of both of the statue’s legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found to the left of the G in GOD.  A die gouge can be found north of the six in the date.  Reverse:  Two die gouges can be found to the right of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the last Memorial column.  A die gouge can be found below the right base of the Memorial.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-005

Description:  Doubling shows on the right side of the statue’s legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Die gouges can be found to the right of the R and to the right of the T in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs WSW from under the D in the designer’s initials.  Obverse Stage B:  New obverse die.  A small die gouge can be found above the right side of the B in LIBERTY.  Two die gouges can be found above the S in TRUST.  Reverse Stage A:  A short die gouge runs WSW from the left Memorial base.  Two short, parallel die gouges can be found near the rim to the left of the left Memorial base.  A die gouge can be found above the right cornice.   A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the left of the upper 9th Memorial column.  A die gouge can be found NNW of the F in FG.  Reverse Stage B:  The Stage A markers are considerably weaker.  Three parallel die scratches run from WNW to ESE between the T and A of STATES.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 12th Memorial column.  A die crack runs south from the Memorial ceiling between the first two columns.  A die crack runs down the upper left side of the 2nd Memorial column.  Numerous die scratches run from west to east through the Memorial and below the Memorial.  Die pitting can be found to the right of the lower left leg of the statue.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-006

Description:  A strongly tilted partial column protrudes from the center left side of the 7th Memorial column.  An equally tilted extra leg runs through the upper left leg of the statue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short, vertical die gouge can be found just to the right of the E in WE.  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the 1st 9 in the date.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the E in UNITED.  A small die gouge touches the inside of the bottom of the D in UNITED.  A short die gouge protrudes from the rim NE of the designer’s initials.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-007

Description:  A strong spread to the south shows as an extra pair of statue legs.  Extra knees can be seen above the normal knees and doubling can be found on the lower part of the statue’s legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two small die gouges can be found above the left side of the R in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge touches the left side of the top of the T in LIBERTY.  Two small die gouges can be found to the left of the G in GOD.  A die gouge can be found above the 6.  Several die gouges can be found midway between the profile of Lincoln and the rim.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the E in UNITED.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found at the rim between the tops of the R and I in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the G in FG.  A die gouge can be found between the bottom of the Memorial and the top right side of the T in CENT.

1996-D 1¢ WDDR-008

Description:  A spread to the west shows on the upper right side of the statue’s legs.  Doubling also shows on the right side of the 6th Memorial column to the left of the statue.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found below and between the B and E of LIBERTY.  A short, vertical die scratch can be found to the left of the upper W in WE.  A die gouge can be found in the field well north of the 19 in the date.  Reverse:  A vertical die scratch can be found to the left of the T in UNITED.  A die gouge can be found above the end of the right Memorial base.  Two short, vertical die gouges can be found to the right of the lower T in CENT.  A small die gouge touches the bottom left side of the T in CENT.  A die gouge can be found to the left of the upper E in CENT.  A die gouge can be found above the right end of the bottom horizontal crossbar of the E in ONE.

Description:  Doubling shows on the right side of the statue’s legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge touches the beard below the lower lip.  Short diagonal die scratches can be found below the E in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the lower 2nd A in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found below the right end of the Memorial.  A die gouge can be found below the Memorial above the right side of the T in CENT.  A die gouge can be found between the lower O and N of ONE.  A die crack runs from SW to NE above the 5th Memorial column.

Description:  Doubling shows on the right side of the statue’s legs.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge extends WSW from the upper left of the I in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the B in LIBERTY.  A die gouge can be found just under the left side of the O of GOD.  Die gouges can be found above the left and right sides of the D mint mark.  A die gouge touches the front of the vest WSW of the D mint mark.  Reverse:  Feeder finger scratches run from SW to NE below the U in UNITED and NE from the top right of the N in UNITED.  Feeder finger scratches run from NW to SE between the bottom of the Memorial and the O in ONE.  Several die gouges can be found to the right of the lower 12th Memorial column.  Two die gouges can be found just below the right end of the Memorial.  A small die gouge can be found between the upper C and E of CENT.

Description:  Bar extended from the elbow to the lower knee to the right of the statue on the seventh column.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge is present connecting the tips of A and M in AMERICA.  A die gouge touches the right lower side of the first 9 in the date.  A die gouge is present above the left side of 6 of the date.  A die gouge is present centered above E and R of LIBERTY.  A die gouge is present right of the T of LIBERTY.  A die gouge is present in the field behind Lincoln’s head.  A die gouge is present between the N of IN and G of GOD at the level of the bottom of the letters.  A die gouge is present inside the lower E of WE.  A die gouge is present well above D of VDB.  Reverse:  Several small die gouges are present left of and below the left memorial base.  A die gouge is present at the rim just right of N.  Die gouge left of the lower left side of C of CENT.  Die gouge present right of the lower T of CENT.
