2004 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A spread to the NW shows as notches on the lower left BERTY of LIBERTY and the upper left underside of the horizontal bar of the T in LIBERTY.  Separation lines show on the lower E and R of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  None significant.  Obverse Stage B:  A die crack extends from the eye brow NW through the forehead.  A die gouge (dot) can be found in the field almost touching the hair at the top back of the head.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 2004 1¢ WDDR-001.  A strong Class IV spread to the east shows on EPU, the dots, USA, FG, ONE CENT, and the Memorial roof details.  Reverse Stage B:  Die cracks 1st and 2nd columns, down 3rd column into left post, top of 3rd column arcing east to die chip above 4th column, down 10th column into right post, and across upper E to N in CENT.

2004 1¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A spread to the NNW shows as notches on the lower left ERTY of LIBERTY and the upper left underside of the horizontal bar of the T in LIBERTY.  Extra thickness also shows on all of the letters of LIBERTY and on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short, strong die gouge runs southeast from the lower right W of WE.  A die gouge (dot) is in the field north of the 2 in the date.  A small die chip can be found on the top of the second zero in the date.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 2004 1¢ WDDR-116.  Doubling shows on the left side of the 7th Memorial column to the right of the statue’s knees. A die gouge can be found to the right of the lower N of CENT.  A die crack shows on the right cornice.  A die crack shows at the top of the third column while another extends ENE from the third design curl above the third column.  Die gouges (dots) can be found to the left of the center of the E in ONE and inside the lower N of ONE.

2004 1¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A spread to the SW shows as notches on the upper left RTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A strong die gouge (dot) shows between the upper second zero and four of the date.  Obverse Stage B: A die crack runs from the lower E to B of LIBERTY.  Die cracks show on the left side and top of the first zero of the date.  A die crack runs northwest from Lincoln’s eyebrow.  Reverse Stage A: Relatively marker free.  Reverse Stage B: Die cracks can be found at the top of the third and fourth Memorial columns.  A die gouge (dot) can be found near the rim southeast of FG.  Two small die gouges appear at the top right of the T in CENT.

2004 1¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A spread to the ESE shows on the ERTY of LIBERTY and also on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A die scratch can be found in the field east of the front curl of hair.  A die gouge (dot) can be found southwest of the first T of TRUST.  Obverse Stage B:  A die gouge (dot) now shows between the words IN and GOD while a nice die crack extends northwest through the forehead from Lincoln’s eyebrow.  Reverse Stage A:  A die gouge (dot) can be seen north of the statue while another can be seen in the fifth bay to the left of the statue.  Short die cracks show at the top of the third and fourth columns.  A large die chip can be found on the lower first column.  Reverse Stage B:  The reverse of Stage A has been replaced with a new reverse.  A die gouge (dot) can be found north of the upper right Memorial.

2004 1¢ WDDO-005

Description:  A spread to the ESE shows as extra thickness on the date, the collar fold above the bowtie, beard details, and the hair on the lower back of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouges (dots) show midway up in the center fold of Lincoln’s vest.  Reverse:  The reverse die is a strong “Wavy Steps” variety.

2004 1¢ WDDO-006

Description:  Doubling shows as notches on the upper left ERTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) shows just south of the B in LIBERTY.  Two die gouges show between the lower two zeros in the date.  A die gouge shows just above the right side of the first zero in the date.  Reverse:  Strong wavy steps can be found below the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Memorial columns with a slant to the SSW.  A die gouge can be found above the left side of the N in CENT.  A small die gouge can be found between the 1st U in PLURIBUS and the N in UNUM.  A die chip can be found inside the upper N of UNUM.  A die crack runs down the left side of the 2nd column and NNE into the roof.

2004 1¢ WDDO-007

Description:  Doubling shows as notches on the upper left ERTY of LIBERTY and some extra thickness to the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) shows above the second zero in the date.  Two die gouges (dots) show south of the 2 in the date.  A die gouge (dot) can be found above the back of Lincoln’s eyebrow.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found to the left of the lower U in UNITED.  Another die gouge shows to the right of the last Memorial column and left of the bottom right side of the second A in AMERICA.  A die scratch runs NNE from the bottom right side of the seventh Memorial column.

2004 1¢ WDDO-008

Description:  Doubling shows as extra thickness to the letters of LIBERTY, the date, and the lower hair and beard details. Notches show on the lower left TY of LIBERTY and on the lower part of the upper left T of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) shows well below and between the two zeros in the date.  A die gouge can be found between the B and E of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found pretty well centered in the D of UNITED.  Another die gouge shows to the left of the bottom of the second U in PLURIBUS.  A die gouge (dot) can be found inside the top of the N of ONE at the angle.  A die scratch runs southwest from near the top of the second Memorial column.

Description:  Doubling shows as light extra thickness to the letters of LIBERTY.  Notches show on the lower right ERTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) shows at the bottom left side of the second zero in the date.  Two die gouges (dots) can be found on the lower right side of the bust.  Some strong die gouges show well to the left of the I of IN.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 2004 1¢ WDDR-025.  Doubling shows on the center left side of the 7th column to the right of the upper statue.  A die gouge can be found just to the left of the bottom of the 12th column.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 12th column.  A die gouge can be found below the right Memorial base.  A die gouge can be found inside the upper C in CENT.  A die gouge can be found well north of the C in CENT.

Description:  Light extra thickness shows on the letters of LIBERTY.  Notching can be found on the lower left T and Y of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found below the left side of the E in LIBERTY.  A short die crack runs SW from the bottom left corner of the E in LIBERTY.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the G in GOD.  Die pitting can be found below the 2nd zero in the date.  Reverse: A die crack and die chips can be found on the upper right side of the 1st Memorial column.  A die crack runs down the 2nd Memorial column.  A die chip can be found above the 4th Memorial column.  A small die chip can be found at the bottom of the 3rd Memorial column.  A die chip can be found between the bottom two steps located between the 4th and 5th Memorial columns.
