Description:  D/D North

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: No prominent die markers.  Obverse Stage B: Weak die crack above the designer’s initials.  Reverse Stage A: Die chip in the field right from the upper area of the last A in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B: Die chip still present.

1941-D 1¢ WRPM-002

Description:  D/D Tilted (Rotated)

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Slightly curving N/S die scratch to the left of the 9 in the date.  Die scratches from the vest adjacent the first 1 in the date.  N/S die scratch centered in the hair and positioned below WE.  Long die scratch from the upper right of the N of IN running east to the rim.  Die scratch SSE from the lower left side of the O in GOD to the head.  Lathe marks near the rim in the area of the back of the bust.  Obverse Stage B: Stage A die scratches are weaker except the die scratch in the hair which is still strong.  The die scratch from the N of IN is abraded away.  The lather mark is abraded away.  Obverse Stage C: All die scratches abraded away except the die scratch in the hair.  Reverse Stage A: Fine N/S die scratches in the field.  Reverse Stage B: Die scratches abraded away.  Reverse Stage C: Light die crack from the upper left of the E in ONE to the lower right of the B in PLURIBUS.

Description:  D/D Northwest

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Strong secondary mint mark showing inside, to the left and above the primary mint mark.  Light die scratches south from behind the head at the lower area.  Obverse Stage B: Die scratches abraded away.  Secondary mint mark only shows inside the primary mint mark.  Die crack from the rim at 7:00 running north through the shoulder.  Reverse Stage A: Very fine N/S die scratches in the field.  Reverse Stage B: Die scratches abraded away.  Die chip centered on the left side of the left wheat ear.  Die crack northeast from the rim at about 4:00 running to the wheat ear.

Description:  D/D Southeast

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Secondary mint mark shows the vertical bar below the primary mint mark.  Obverse Stage B: Secondary mint mark is weaker.  Weak die crack over the designer’s initials.  Obverse Stage C: Secondary mint mark is very weak.  Die crack is stronger.  Obverse Stage D: Only a weak remnant of the secondary mint mark still remains.  Die crack extends into rim on both sides.  Reverse Stage A: None visible.  Circulated specimen was examined.  Reverse Stage B: None visible.  Circulated specimen was examined.  Reverse Stage C: None visible.  Circulated specimen was examined.  Reverse Stage D: None visible.  Circulated specimen was examined.

Description:  D/D West

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: The obverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1941-D 1¢ WDDO-003.  NNE die scratches on the vest and from the vest.  Die scratches NNW from the head below GOD.  N/S die scratches behind the neck.  Obverse Stage B: Die scratches are weaker.  Light N/S die crack at the top of the hair.  Light die crack SW from left center of the lapel.  Obverse Stage C: Most die scratches abraded away.  Die crack at the hair extends into the field.  Reverse Stage A: The reverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1941-D 1¢ WDDR-002.  Class VI doubling shows best on EPU, the dots, and both wheat ear tips.  Reverse Stage B: Die markers still present.  Reverse Stage C: Die markers still present.

Description:  D/D Southeast

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Die gouge from the rim between GOD and WE.  Lathe marks near the rim at GOD, WE and below the back of the bust.  Obverse Stage B: Weaker secondary mint mark.  Weaker die gouge at GOD WE.  Lathe marks still present.  Obverse Stage C: Secondary mint mark only shows inside the primary mint mark.  Die gouge very weak.  Lathe marks abraded away.  Obverse Stage D: Die gouge abraded away.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch connecting the tops of the I and B in PLURIBUS.  Die scratch west from the left side of the second U in PLURIBUS positioned slightly above center.  Reverse Stage B: Die scratches are weaker.  Reverse Stage C: Die scratches abraded away.  Reverse Stage D: Weak chipped die crack on the contour of the left wheat ear at the left side wheat lines.  Die crack in the center of the left wheat grains closer to the top.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Primary mint mark is higher than WRPM-012 and WRPM-013.  Primary mint mark is further west than WRPM-013.  Fine N/S die scratches in the field. Strong die scratch north from the top of the head to the lower left of the E in WE.  Reverse:  Light die scratch SSE from the left leg of the last A in AMERICA.

Description:  D/D Northwest

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches north from the beard and nose.  Lathe marks near the rim above the D in GOD, WE and the first T in TRUST.  Lathe marks near the rim from the back of the bust that runs past the front of the bust.  Die gouge on the bottom of the jacket near the fold.  Heavy die gouge through the bottom of the lapel fold.  Long die gouge under the front of the bust.  Reverse:  NW/SE feeder finger die scratch through the left wheat lines positioned opposite the C in CENT.   Die scratch from the bottom of the S of PLURIBUS to the first U of UNUM.
