Description:  A spread to the south shows on the 19 in the date and the Y of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Sans Serif S mint mark.  A die scratch runs north from the Y of LIBERTY.  Die scratches run N/S below the one in the date.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs SW/NE to the left of the P in PLURIBUS.  A die scratch runs SE from the bottom left of the M in UNUM.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.

1946-S 1¢ WDDO-006          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong spread towards the rim shows on the letters of IN GOD WE.  On the letters of WE the spread is also counterclockwise.  Extra thickness can be seen on the letters of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  The mint mark is an RPM that is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 1¢ WRPM-016.  It is an S/S East.  Three die scratches extend SW and SSW from the underside of the ear.  A short die scratch runs SW to NE to the right of the upper lip.  Two parallel die scratches run NNW to SSE to the right of the beard and well north of the 1 in the date.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found under the right side of the C in CENT.

1946-S 1¢ WDDO-008          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread shows on the letters of LIBERTY and also the letters of IN.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Trumpet Tail S mint mark.  Several die scratches run north from the Y of LIBERTY.  A die scratch extends north from the R of LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs NNW from the center of Lincoln’s nose.  Obverse Stage B:  Die heavily abraded.  Only the die scratches from the Y of LIBERTY remain.  Reverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs south from the top right side of the left wheat ear.  A die scratch runs south from the lower right C in CENT.  A vertical die scratch runs between the S and T of STATES.  Reverse Stage B:  Die heavily abraded.  Only the die scratch from the upper left wheat remains.

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the left wheat ear and wheat kernels.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Sans Serif Mint Mark.  The obverse ia also an RPM variety listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 1¢ WRPM-010.  It is an S/S West.  Die scratches run north from the tops of the B and E in LIBERTY.  Numerous other die scratches running mostly N/S can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  A N/S die scratch runs through the C in CENT to the top of the N in UNITED.  Die scratches run from NNW to SSE between the lower RIC in AMERICA.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.

Description:  Doubling shows on the left upper wheat lines.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  The obverse is an RPM that is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 1¢ WRPM-017.  It is an S/S West.  N/S die scratches through the left upper side of the 9 in the date.  Die scratches south from the T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the upper left wheat ear, the E of EPU, and the UNIT of UNITED.  Slight extra thickness shows on the first dot.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Numerous die scratches extend north from the ERT of LIBERTY.  A short, strong die scratch extends NNW from the top of the 9.  A strong die gouge runs north to south just to the right of Lincoln’s beard.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs NNW from the lower left E of ONE.  Four parallel die scratches run south from the lower right wheat ear and stem.  Two parallel die scratches run north to south through the left wheat stem.

Comments:  This variety was originally listed as WDDR-014, but was reassigned to fill a hole left by the discovery of a doubled working hub for the reverse of the 1946 Lincoln cents.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Ball Serif S mint mark.  A die scratch runs north from the upper right of the T of LIBERTY.  Two intersecting die scratches run north from the Y in LIBERTY.  A long curving die scratch runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A weak N/S die scratch can be found to the right of the T in CENT.  A short die scratch runs north from the top of the T in CENT.
