Description: D/D North
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die scratch runs parallel to the rim between the S and T of TRUST. Obverse Stage B: Two small die gouges are seen under the bowtie in the form of dots. Obverse Stage C: Same as Stage B. Reverse Stage A: A die scratch runs from NNW to SSE to the right of the lower C in AMERICA. A die scratch curves from SSW to NNE between and above the E and D in UNITED. Light die scratches run from north to south between the S and T in STATES. Reverse Stage B: Circulated coin. None detected. Reverse Stage C: A die scratch runs through the upper URI in PLURIBUS.

1942-D 1¢ WRPM-003
Description: D/D South
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: An almost vertical die scratch is seen near the rim below the L in LIBERTY. A short die scratch runs NE from the top left of the Y in LIBERTY. A long die scratch runs from NNE to SSW just left of the upper shoulder and south of the Y in LIBERTY. Die pitting can be found on the back of the collar and neck. Obverse Stage B: A die crack runs from WSW to ENE through the hair above the ear into the upper forehead and into the field after passing through the front curl of hair above the front of the forehead. A die crack runs from the bottom of the 9 SW to the front of the vest. Reverse Stage A: First Reverse. A small die gouge (dot) is seen between the bottom of the D in UNITED and the 1st S in STATES. A light vertical die scratch can be found between the bottom of the I in AMERICA and the right wheat stem. Reverse Stage B: Second Reverse. A curving die scratch runs through the lower IBU in PLURIBUS. A die scratch runs NE from the top of the I in AMERICA. A die scratch runs from east to west under the left side of the crossbar of the T in CENT.

1942-D 1¢ WRPM-004 "Best Of" Variety
Description: D/D Northwest
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die scratch running north to south from the upper loop end going south to the tail of the nine in date. Obverse Stage B: A die scratch is seen going NNE from the top of the nine in date. A scratch is seen to the left of the one in date going SW to NE. Obverse Stage C: A short scratch under the cross bar going west from the left side of the leg of the four in date. A few small scratches are seen at the inside top of the loop of the nine. Obverse Stage D: Same as Stage C. Reverse Stage A: First Reverse. None significant. Reverse Stage B: Same as Stage A. Reverse Stage C: Same as Stage B. Reverse Stage D: Second Reverse. A die scratch starting from the bottom right of the O in ONE going south into the E in CENT. A die scratch is seen going north from the top right arm of the U in UNITED. A long thin scratch going north and south starting at the right side of the D of UNITED and ending below the M in AMERICA.

Description: D/D Southeast
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Parallel die scratches run from SW to NE between IN and GOD. A die scratch runs ESE from the bottom of the G in GOD. Obverse Stage B: A die gouge (dot) can be found below the B in LIBERTY. The Stage A die scratches between IN and GOD are no longer visible. Reverse Stage A: A short die gouge runs north from the top left of the D in UNITED. A wavy die scratch can be found above the right wheat stem running not quite parallel to the right wheat stem. Numerous die scratches run from north to south throughout the reverse. Reverse Stage B: Same as Stage A.

Die Markers: Obverse: A short, nearly vertical die scratch can be found to the right of the upper Y in LIBERTY. A die scratch runs ESE from the rim above the E in WE. Reverse: A die gouge can be found on the center right side of the O in OF. A die gouge touches the bottom right of the E in STATES.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A weak vertical die scratch is seen on the back of the bottom lip. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A die scratch is no longer visible. Reverse Stage A: A long die scratch runs south from the right side of the O in ONE through the upper E in CENT. A die scratch runs south from the bottom left of the second U in PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: The die scratch from the U is no longer visible.

Die Markers: Obverse: The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler doubled die files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-008 showing the doubling on the underside of the L in LIBERTY. Reverse: A series of die scratches between the C and E of CENT and the second T of STATES. A long die scratch is seen between the ES of STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: A series of slanted die scratches can be seen below the bust. A die scratch runs ENE from the hair at the top front of the head to the left of the T in TRUST. A long die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the T in LIBERTY. A short die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the I in LIBERTY. Reverse: A die gouge (dot) can be seen above and to the right of the D in UNITED. A short die scratch from the bottom of the first S in STATES runs west.

Die Markers: Obverse: Parallel die scratches run NE from the top of the forehead and the front curl of hair. A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the left of the back of the neck. A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE to the right of the upper nose, the eye, and the lower forehead. Reverse: A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE to the right side of the O in ONE. Several die scratches run from north to south just to the right of the E in ONE. A die scratch runs from north to south to the left of the lower T in CENT.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: The obverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-006. A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the O in GOD. A die scratch runs parallel to the rim between the S and T in TRUST. A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the right of the throat. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A markers are much weaker and the RPM is barely visible. Reverse Stage A: A die scratch runs from SW to NE through the bottom of the P to the top of the L in PLURIBUS. A die scratch runs WSW from the top of the 2nd A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: A new reverse die was paired with the obverse. It is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDR-006. Class VI extra thickness shows on the letters of EPU and the dots. A Class II spread towards the center shows on the left wheat ear and stem. A die gouge runs from SSW to NNE between the upper D in UNITED and the 1st S in STATES.

A short die scratch runs north from the top right of the N in UNITED. A short die scratch runs NE from the top right of the first T in STATES.

Obverse Stage D: A die gouge between the rim and the bust at 6:00. Reverse Stage A: A die scratch is seen going south from the bottom of the N in UNITED to the left side of the upper O of OF. A die scratch runs NNE from the top of the N in UNITED to the bottom left of the C in CENT. Reverse Stage B: A die gouge is seen inside the upper N in UNUM. Reverse Stage C: Weak remnants at the N of UNITED. Reverse Stage D: A light die crack in the wheat grains right of the last S in STATES. Die scratch at the N of UNITED is abraded away.
