Description:  Slight doubling shows below the L in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches run north from the top left of the B and the top right of the E in LIBERTY.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found inside the bottom of the N in UNITED.  A small die gouge can be found below the D in UNITED.  Parallel die scratches run SW/NE at the bottom of the second Memorial bay.  Numerous die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found south of the Y in LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  A short die gouge can be found to the left of the G in GOD.  A short die scratch runs WSW/ENE below the chin.  Obverse Stage C:  The die scratch below the chin is no longer visible.  A vertical die scratch can be found to the right of the bowtie.  Reverse Stage A:  A pre-die break depression can be found below the top right of the T in CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  New reverse die.  Short die gouges extend from the lower left of the A in STATES.  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the right post.  Reverse Stage C:  The reverse die has been heavily abraded leaving numerous die scratches running mostly N/S throughout the reverse.

Description:  A CCW spread shows as an extra eyelid below the normal eyelid, doubling at the top of the L in LIBERTY, and doubling to the top right of the second T in TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge runs WSW from the rim to the right of the second T in TRUST.  A die scratch runs from the top of the chin to the upper lip.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found above the right base of the Memorial.  A small die gouge can be found inside the upper N in CENT.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be seen below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs NW/SE below the E in LIBERTY.  A short die gouge runs ESE from the rim to the right of the R in TRUST.  Other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Obverse Stage B:  Same as Stage A.  Reverse Stage A:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the designer’s initials.  A die scratch runs SE from the top of the last Memorial column.  Other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.  Reverse Stage B:  A die scratch runs SSW from the top left of the left cornice.  Numerous die scratches run SSW/NNE to the left of the upper Memorial.

Description:  A small bar from a tilted clockwise spread shows under the L of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A small die gouge can be found just below the N of IN.  A die scratch connects the lower R and T of LIBERTY.  A die scratch extends northeast from the top of the 6.  A short die scratch extends southeast from Lincoln’s throat.  A long die scratch extends south-southwest from the bottom of the T in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of Lincoln’s lower lip.  Remnants of a die clash connect the upper 1 and 9 in the date.  Obverse Stage B:  All Stage A die scratches are much weaker.  The die gouge below the N of IN is gone while the die gouge to the right of the lower lip is much stronger.  Obverse Stage C:  All Stage A die scratches are now barely visible or completely missing.  The die gouge to the right of the lower lip remains very strong.  Reverse:  The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1963 1¢ WDDR-002.  See that listing for the reverse details.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be found just south of the main eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Three die scratches extend north from the R, T, and Y of LIBERTY.  A die scratch connects the front curl of hair to the middle of Lincoln’s forehead.  Die scratches extend southwest from the O and D of GOD.  Several vertical die scratches run through the date.  Reverse:  A strong die clash shows in the third Memorial bay.  Two parallel die scratches run west-southwest from the left cornice through the left side of the N of UNITED to the rim.  Numerous die scratches run north-northwest from the upper right roof of the Memorial.
