The Minnesota State quarter was the 32nd quarter to be released in the Mint's Statehood Quarter program.  Because Minneota is known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," the reverse design features a tree lined lake with two people fishing in a boat on the lake.  In the forefront a loon can be seen swimming in the water.  On the center left there is an outline of the state with the inscription "Land of 10,000 Lakes" inside the state outline.

The target area for doubled dies on the reverse of the Minnesota State quarters is the area around the third complete tree to the right of the state outline.  While the entire obverse and reverse should be examined carefully for doubling, the target area is where you are most likely going to find the doubled die doubling.

The listing of the Minnesota State quarter doubled die varieties initiated an effort on the part of the major die variety attributers to coordinate the listings so that all of the attributers would be using the same die numbers.  These attributers included Ken Potter, Billy G. Crawford, John A. Wexler, and CONECA.  This worked well for a time, but the volume of mail with these varieties eventually became extremely overwhelming for the person coordinating the joint effort and after the first 57 varieties were listed the attributers agreed that the coordinated effort could not be sustained.  Billy G. Crawford bowed out completely and started his own file from scratch.

The Wexler Files remain the same as the Potter and CONECA Files through the first 57 DDR listings with one exception.  It was eventually discovered that the original WDDR-051 (DDR #51) and the original WDDR-041 (DDR #41) were the same variety.  Die markers confirmed this.  In the Wexler Files the original WDDR-051 (DDR #51) was deleted and replaced with a new WDDR-051.  CONECA also deleted the original DDR #51 and replaced it with a new listing.  The Potter website, however, never made the change and the DDR #51 listed there is still the same as DDR #41.  Consequently, the Wexler Files, the CONECA Files, and the Potter Files all have the same varieties from Die #1 through Die #57 except for Die #51.  For Die #51 all three files illustrate a different variety.  After the first 57 DDR listings the Wexler File listings do not match the numbers for Potter or CONECA.  This needs to be kept in mind when trying to assemble a collection of these varieties.

Because of the large number of doubled dies reported for the Minnesota State quarters, we have divided the listings up among several pages for your convenience.

If you have any Minnesota State quarter doubled die varieties that are not shown on thee pages, we would love to add them to our files.  Go to the Coin Examinations page to find the guidelines for submitting coins for attribution.  Just click on the link in the left column menu to access that page.

In the following listings the person listed as "Submitted By" is the person who sent the coin for listing in the Wexler Doubled Die Files.  It is not necessarily the person who originally discovered the variety.
